These threads suck. Every time I open one about the Explorer I waste a bunch of time staring at the one on my wrist instead of working. It's such a simple classic design. The 36mm works just fine on my 7.25" wrist. Mine goes everywhere with me.

My 114270 was my first Rolex and it's still the one makes my heart skip a beat when put it on, even after 15 years.

An insane watch. I’ve had both the 39 MM and the 36 MM and I stuck with the 39 MM because it rises and visibility.

The result being me picking up the Explorer 36 from a local Rolex AD today. Waiting time was shortly below 2 months.

And I like the watch for its purity, which for a number of years was the reason I disregarded it.

Sizewise it was an easy choice since my wrists are 16cm.

By the way - today is the first day my AD (a chain and the only AD in my country running several Rolex boutiques) is accepting expressions of interest on Rolex’s novelties. And guess what? Hardly anyone is interested (whereas in previous years people were queuing to get “noted’).

Congrats

Do you mind sharing also which setting on the microadjustment you are on? there should be three, and i believe it comes in the middle hole by default.

Well, I really don’t know what micro adjustment you have on mind. I can’t find any…

Hm interesting, so you have 2 links taken off total (1 off on each side), but assuming youre unaware of microadjustments I would guess it's on the middle setting. The microadjustments are the 3 settings on which the ezlink attaches to the clasp. It enables 2.5-3mm adjustments, separate from the 5mm EZ Link adjustment. Thanks!

Ha, I had no idea about these positions. I’ve just checked - it’s the middle one. Thanks for teaching me sth.

How do you change the position not ruining the bracelet?

The idea is to use a tool/screwdriver to pop the spring bar out and then move it to the tighter or looser microadjustment. If done carefully, should potentially avoid scratches.

I've yet to get ahold of my explorer yet so I'm speaking purely from the research I've done, not first-hand experience.

So do you anticipate needing to microadjust? Or have you been happy with just taking 2 links out for your 16cm wrist? Is the current fit loose or snug?

Cheers!

It is snug. With the easy link in the “closed” position. So I would gladly add 1mm.

Cool let us know how it works out with the microadjust if you decide to use it! Surprised that the AD didnt mention these microadjust to you haha

I've never understood the love for this watch and don't think that I've enough years left to evolve - wish I could appreciate this watch for its simplicity as its available and affordable enough to actually acquire. Congrats!

Do not lose your hope. In my case the admiration struck very unexpectedly.

I wasn’t interested in the Explorers i (rarely) saw or (barely) noticed from 2015 to 2022, focussing my growing Rolex obsession on GMTs and Explorer IIs instead, but having sold both a BLNR and a black 16570 i went to my AD and he brought out my three options to realistically get on the dreaded list for, a black OP, a black DJ, and the newly out 124270. There was no contest and it’s the first time i’d ever actually put an Explorer on the wrist. Something clicked, it was like all my Rolex roads had actually led to simultaneously the most understated but at the same time quintessentially rolex ROLEX i’d ever seen. As if it ticked all the boxes because it always had design wise, with so little need to change. It took 4 months to arrive and i absolutely love the plain, shiny, classic little thing. It hasn’t turned me into Gollum like the BLNR did, i go a fair amount of time not really thinking about it or babying it, and don’t feel anxious about it on wrist as i did the bigger and somewhat showier Rolexes i owned, then out of the blue i’ll catch it in certain lights and be wowed all over again. What a watch.

I also change up the strap options and it annihilates everything i try. I end up back on bracelet mainly but it’s still ‘got it’ if you know what i mean. Strap. Monster.

I had the 214270 (Mark II), but ended up selling it when I received my 124270, which I think looks much more balanced. Congrats on joining the Explorer club
