The best reason you need lume is because….

Trying to put a toddler to sleep in pitch black, you have no idea how much time has passed and you can’t use a phone cause all the toddler will do is crawl over you looking at your phone.

Explorer lume to the rescue.

What’s your reason?

Tritium lume is wonderful because it ages and adds character. Luminova lume is meh, especially Super Luminova, since it’s weak to begin with, has a lifespan of 10-12 years, and won’t patina in the long term unfortunately

All watches should have tritium tubes with complementary dial replacement every 12 years.

My Ball Fireman and Traser watches are good examples.

This is great. My baby is starting to fuss when we put her down for naps. I simply flip my wrist to distract her with the lume and slowly pull my hand away and sneak out of the room!

I think Rolex should be adding Tritium Tubes. They are superior to the Rolex Luminova.

Same here OP.

The submariner has also been an invaluable tool over the last few years for timing naps!

I can read the time right through the night and early hours of the morning when I wake up with the watch sitting on the side table without my glasses on.
The Chromalite goes better than anything i've matched it up against right through the night when it counts.
Better than the legendary Seiko stuff or the best that Omega has to offer.
Over 12 years old and going strong with no degradation in performance and identical performance to my other watch which is 8 years old

The old Tritium stuff was pathetic toward the end.
It's not uncommon for it to be virtually dead after 3 years

I just like it when I check the time at 3 am everyday lol

My son always talks about my watch if it’s glowing when I bring him to bed. So much so that I bought him a watch with lume and 100m wr.

I always wear my Ball Pilot GMT with tritium tube lume to bed at night, as I often wake up in the middle of the night and want to check the time without turning on a nightstand reading lamp.

When we went to the movies, it was nice to be able to read the time in the dark theater.

To read the time in the middle of the night. I lay my watch on the nightstand when I go to bed. I try to end my evening wearing my BLNR or BB58 - lume is way better than any 5-digit Rolex.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion of course. Seriously, when I’m on vacation and I go in a dark ride I am always appreciative I can get a quick glimpse of the time to keep my day on schedule.

Pirates of the Caribbean.

Disney, especially Magic Kingdom is one vacation destination where keeping on schedule is of utmost importance!! Great watch! How was Tron btw? I’m going in March so plan to ride it then.

Tron was awesome. Totally worth Genie+ but try to get on the que first thing in the morning. If you are staying on property, you can get on the que from your resort. Tron and Guardians of the Galaxy at Epcot and Flight Of Passage at Animal Kingdom are outstanding and worth the effort to ride.
We go back for 2 weeks at the Polynesian in April. Counting down the days in our crappy winter weather. Taking the BLNR.

We did 2 weeks at the GrandFlo this past 2023 year.

Not trying to be argumentative, but if you wait until you are in the middle of a ride to check what time it is..its TOO LATE!

You’re not kidding. It’s also better to ride Tron at night.

FYI: Important WIS safety note for your clasp….. On Tron, choose the handlebars closest to you. Even though they are designed for short people use them as the furthest ones out will put your Rolex clasp right on top of the shorter aluminum handlebars. It would be carnage. I figured that out right before launching.

WDW Rolex tip#2: Use your Sub or GMT turnable bezel to mark your next scheduled que ride. It works like a charm to quickly look down and see when your next scheduled ride. Use your bezel to mark the time as soon as you are in the sun at the pool. That Florida sun can fry you quickly as you are lounging and drinking at the resort pool/bar.

It’s one of the main reasons I don’t take my Daytona on these trips as a turnable bezel is used so much each day. It’s easier and faster on the fly over a chronograph on vacation.
In have been doing this every year for years now. Too much is happening at a theme park or waterpark on vacation especially with kids so using a timing bezel is the easiest to compartmentalize your activities.

Thanks for the tips. We’re at Wilderness Lodge so I’ll be sure to get the queue first thing. No Guardians this trip as we’re just doing a short trip before a cruise out of Florida but I do love that ride. Only time for one park this time though and it has to be MK haha. I love your green Sub. I have a thing for green watches.

It's great for timing the span between pees when I get up in the middle of the night.

Thank you for assigning a time value. No one has been able to say anything except for "It doesn't degrade".

This tracks with a 2009 model watch I purchased in 2022 - the hands had significantly less luminosity (same color) than the dial. Which makes me believe the dial was a service dial.

Replaced the hands at my local Rolex magic shop and the problem was resolved. I can now see the lume all night in any light.

Highly unlikely.
There has always been some batch to batch variation and more often than not some diminished lume performance of the hands compared with the dial. Even from new.
Sometimes, replacement hands are a closer match to the dial
It mostly depends upon the volume of lume.
As I've said before, the Rolex Tritium was outright dismal with a longer term improvement in the change to Luminova and a slight improvement again in the change to Superluminova.
Where it became really interesting was the introduction of Chromalite. Which was a pleasant surprise to myself who has made a personal study of lume because I highly value the feature.

I find the lume on my watches is too dim to read in a few hours, if that.
