I am in the same boat. I was a 39mm to 42mm guy because of my 7.5 inch wrist. However I have fallen in love with the 3970, 2499 and the 5004. like you I only like collector pieces vs just standard run of the mill Pateks(even though I own the 5711, 5980r, and 5164) I am also stuck on my next purchase. I do have some status with Patek but not enough. I did get offered a 5204p last year but passed because I knew the black was coming. I am kicking myself a bit because I am way down the list on the black dial. Unfortunately like the 5270 the 5204 has to be bought right. If pay anything close to retail you will get your head taken off if you want or have to sell it. I have also requested a 5131j but will have to work some behind the scenes majic for that one.
You should check out the 5004. They wear large because of crown and thickness. |

Roger, what an enviable position to be in! The 5204 would be my pick, as others have suggested. For something different how about the 5396G Limited Edition For Tiffany & Co? Good luck, excited to see what's next.

I think you have the Patek line pretty well covered, Roger. I'd diversify and get back into a nice AP/RM you can wear more casually!

The 5004 wears bigger because it is thicker and the crow make car to crow. About 3mm bigger. I think it wears like a 39mm.
Here is the rare 5004 P black baton next to my 5970j |

With such an amazing collection not easy to come up with another 40+ mm piece that is not-so-tough to reach. Just like others above, I'd also vote for 5208P or 5204P.
BTW, how come you're not VIP at Patek with that collection? I would have thought 2 grand complications piece would make you eligible for filing an application for a high-end Patek like 5208P or 5204P.

I don't know how many 5208 have been delivers but I bet you can count then on both hands if not one hand. Can only get from Geneva boutique I believe. Maybe Paris and London.

Thanks everyone, I will take a further look at the 5170. It didn't sing to me on previous acquaintance.
I haven't tried to submit an application yet, so it is not clear how successful I would be. Many of my pieces I was not the original purchaser. The 5131 is "dealer discretion" rather than application I understand, but they have to make a case to PP to get allocation. Or at least that is what I have been told. I am also told that if your dealer organises a visit to the Geneva boutique, and they submit an application on your behalf subsequently, then that is usually successful. As per the other thread, the rules on application pieces are not especially clear........at least to my mind. Myopic, thanks for 5004 pic - I need to check one out! Getting to see one alongside a 5204 may prove a challenge. |

The PP5170 wears big, because of it's flat/thin design and the thin bezel. It actually wears bigger than my 40mm 5205. Below is a picture of me wearing it ( wrist size 6.75" ). There is also a WG version that is better discount. However, I think it's a duplicate of your existing Chrono 5070P. Should look for something with a new complication.

Thanks Ben, obviously completely different movement from the 5070, but I take your point.
DavidSW on here has a nice 5170J that is well priced, maybe I should break my rule on yellow gold! |

I imagine there's a good chance of a P version, or maybe even an A version for the 175th?

The 5170 is quite different from the 5070 in my opinion, and I think it would be a great addition to your PP collection.

Well, if i were you, I would look into 3 options.
1. Enamel Dial Patek (5077 series). I'm not sure if you can find one now with them being produced so limited, but that would be wonderful. An example from this year ; 2. 6102P. I absolutely love the reference and hoping to get one after I get my 5070P (and 5131, but it's out of my hands as well) later this year. 3. 5204P-011. With the new black dial, it's amazing! It's on my list as well. Just look at that! And i strongly advice not to do it but if you do so, just let me know if you look to unload any piece of your collection good luck my friend. |

The enamel goblin (or whatever it is) piece is fantastic! The 6102P is out unfortunately - the other half is not a fan! Agree on the 5204 black face. I think that is the one that is calling........

I'm not sure I understand. If you don't feel strongly about any watch, don't buy one. Wait. I'm sure the company will soon release one that appeals to you. If not, there are other things in life. Enjoy your current collection. Watch the World Cup. Come back in October after the special editions are released.

It would suit very well to your collection! I was thinking of trading my 5270G series 1 with the new upcoming 5270P with black dial, but after seeing that, I'd just want to get the 5204P with black face and have best of the both worlds!

The Gargoyle piece is cool. I think you have a pretty awesome PP collection already, any thought on an AL&S? Datograph or Zeitwork perhaps? Great Watches Roger. |
