The above reasons are exactly why I decided not to get RR SE.

Very nice vehicle but after reading all the problems, went with a Cadillac instead.

Don't recollect any major problems.

I DO remember around 1987, my Gamekeeper telling, a Lexus (RX I think) owner, he wouldn't be coming on the shoot with, "THAT THING!", as he, "didn't want to waste time, towing it out of a muddy field".
Funny story, but I think you are misremembering. There were no Lexus in 1987. The LS (sedan) was the first Lexus, arriving in 1989. The LX was in 95 and has always been a formidable challenger to LR. The crossovers came after that.

I had a 127 in east africa in the 80’s (crew cab version). It was easy to maintain, but dribbled oil everywhere it went. When the dribbling began to subside I knew it was time to add more oil. I saw one in the UAE ten years ago that had been updated with an LS, which made it a proper dune basher. I would buy that one!

None of my old Land Rover buddies will own the new Defender. We’ve all been burnt by the modern version. We were hoping Tata would resolve LR’s reliability issues, but I don’t see solid evidence for that yet.

LR are good looking vehicles, but "temperamental"

There's a old saying, if you want to go into the bush, take a Land Rover. If you want to come back out, take a Land Cruiser.

I love Land Rover. Had an SIIA, a Defender 110 TD4 and a Discovery 3. All reliable vehicles. I would not want anything else as a rugged vehicle, certainly nothing Japanese.

Is that silver LR broken down on the side of the road?

There is a factoid someone posted here a while back…

90% of the Land Rovers sold in the last ten years are still on the road.

The other 10% actually made it to their destination.

Agreed, although I have a 2023 Range Rover and it’s great. Zero reliability or function issues going on 22,000 miles

That said, it does have a BMW made V-8 in it.

We've had 6 Land Rovers. My wife used to work at the dealership. Very enjoyable at first, but they all developed bad rattles and felt progressively looser as the miles mounted. Our last one was a lemon, spending 8 months of its first year in the shop.

To my surprise, my Ram 1500 Limited with air suspension rides smoother and quieter than any of the Land Rovers did. My wife is still in the car biz and a number of her customers have the Defender. None as their only car.

Great looking vehicle, for sure.

It’s been hung up in freight for like 4 weeks which I think means railroad? As soon as it hits a semi it’s here in 3 days. I was expecting it by now so mildly annoying but small potatoes.

Please let me know what you think as it sounds like you’ll have yours first

Forgive me for hijacking, but could you both post a review of the GX after you’ve had a chance to break it in? I’m dying to hear what you think of it and would imagine others are as well.

Be happy to. I am a little nervous buying something I have never even seen in person. However, it is the wife’s new ride and our 13 year old MDX needs replacing now.

It’s a road that a saloon car could traverse. Now, post a picture traversing a boulder strewn wadi and you might illicit some awe.

Land Rover culture runs deep. There’s no sense in arguing. Anyone who says a Land Cruiser isn’t suitable to go somewhere a Land Rover can is foolish but I don’t think that was his point. He just loves land rovers. Good to see anyone taking an SUV off road these days regardless of make.

A Hilux, at a quarter the price, would have made short work of that trail.

If you go to places where your life depends on a reliable truck you will find Toyota’s everywhere. No one that must have a 100% reliable vehicle that will go anywhere drives a Land Rover product.

But, if you want to look wealthy and connected on your glamping trips, by all means go with the Defender.

Sadly I don’t believe the build quality of the current Land Rover range is anywhere near to what it used to be but maybe you could say that about lots of cars

Apparently they called it the “defender” for good reason. Needs one or two to protect its reputation on any online forum.

110 P400. 2 years not a single issue. Prior to that a 2013 RRS supercharged, also not a single issue for 10 years. We love the way land rovers handle. Next stop Range Rover in 2 years.

True enough

Besides.
Toyota are the official Land/Range Rover recovery vehicle when the going starts to get too tough.

So, they use a Japanese product, in stead of any of the great Australian made, off road vehicles, like the...er..., or, the....um...
