Agree with others who say black (has to be hesalite!) first. Same if only one, but Omega did a fantastic job on the white, and it would be a great addition to a collection. I’ve had my 1861 eleven years now, and still love it.

the white dial looks so clean and the red text adds a lot of characters to it.

I still haven't voted on my own poll

Lots of good points being made in this thread.

I guess I do have a black dial 116500 so maybe the white dial Speedmaster is the right choice for me

Tough choice. I have the black dial and wear it daily. I do sometimes look down at my wrist, and though it wears comfortably with no issue, I wonder if it's just a touch too big for me. I think the white dial would perpetuate that perception. When I saw the Daniel Craig leak, I had to have it, even went to my local Omega Boutique to inquire about it and get on the list.

But now that I see more photos released, I'm slightly, and I mean very slightly, less impressed with how it looks. That's not to say it doesn't look fantastic, but I'm not going to try to be the first in line to get one (like I did when the black dial when it was announced). I think I will let it simmer and actually try to see one in the metal (if that's even possible in the near future) before making the final call. But if I had to pick one today, right now, it's the original black dial. It's so good.

I would categorize the new white as strong to very strong.

As an Omega fan boy, I never really liked the 1861 Speedmaster. I thought it was too boring so I got the FOIS instead. The 3861's are a huge improvement but I still didn't really feel the need to own it.

The white dial 3861 is definitely something I want to get to go with my FOIS and Snoopy 50.

You always read my mind.
In my case, with the panda mod FOIS the step to the new white makes less sense though.

I’d have to see the white in person. I think the black is perfect.

I've owned black speedmasters, i grew bored and sold off. Zero buyers remorse.

I'm ITCHING to own the white.

Love the applied indices on the white dial, but wished Omega went a little farther and upgraded to a ceramic bezel.

White dial looks very handsome, but it's going to perceptively wear much larger than the black.

I think black is more elegant, but seeing white in-person may change my mind

Black for me. Would need to see the two in your wrist to decide what’s best! I’m contemplating the same decision between black or silver Cartier Roadster XL.

I’ve been eyeing a Moonwatch since last summer. Was planning to get the Sapphire Sandwich pretty soon as the Daniel Craig leak happened.

I decided to pursue the white dial after trying it on at my nearest OB. The watch, very strangely, wore a little smaller on my wrist (maybe I was too rushed, but it felt that way to me).

Put a full order price deposit down, and now I wait. They figured 1-2 months. Hope they were over estimating the time!

White hands on black dial are more legible IMO.

W-H-I-T-E !

I've respected the Moonwatch, but it never really appealed to me ... until now in white.

I paid a partial deposit on release date and looking forward to my first Speedy. :)

Okay so I've just spent a bit over a day with the white one now. I feel white is superior at least for me for two key reasons:

1. The glossy dial vs the matt on the black
2. the indices vs painted lume on the black

The watch feels like a level up in class. It's a bit like when you look at the WG speedy the dial just as more 3d to it.

Interesting. I also just received the white dial Speedmaster and while I like it it is hard for me not to like the black dial. Less than a week in, I would take the black dial 3861 over the white but it is early. I will see.

Yes, I have not seen it the white dial yet, and from photos I think it looks OK, but I still think the black dial is much better. I'll reserve final judgement until I go in and see the white dial in person, which I have been procrastinating over, mainly because the time to do so is not worth it for me to confirm what I really think.

Black or white is subjective, of course. I almost always prefer black dials as I feel white dials generally “ wash out” ….and I dislike a lot of wide open white space on dials. Certainly not THIS white Speedmaster.

Another thing I found surprising when comparing the black sapphire sandwich to the white was that the white actually looked SMALLER than the black. Which is just about never the case when comparing white/black on same models. I’ve seen/read in a few places that the white speedmaster’s crystal is more domed which doesn’t seem to make sense at all since they’re both sapphire crystal watches….but it could explain why the white dial speedy appeared smaller than the black dial. Or perhaps because of the contrast between the black bezel and white dial that made the white appear smaller. Whatever the reason, I was really surprised. Not sure if there’s an optical illusion but it was noticeable to me…definitely.

The size effect you mention can be from the fact that the black dial an look like the dial is extended to the bezel as they are the same colour, vs with the white the bezel clearly separates from it.

This effect is present on the daytona too.

After getting hands on w the white speedy I’ll confirm it FEELs smaller than the black, and much more premium. The quality dial / contrast / design restraint can’t be fully appreciated until you have it in hand.

I saw the white right next to the black sapphire sandwich and the white dial visually had more depth to it with the recessed sub dials. The white lacquer dial looks fantastic IMO.

I can't get on board with the white until an astronaut takes it to the moon, well at least into space.
