Quartz Wall Clocks
This might sound like a weird question, but does anyone know how quartz wall clocks are able to achieve sweeping seconds hands that are smoother than some of the best mechanical watches? And why this can't be done in quartz watches? I've always been curious about this but have never bothered to ask.

Plugged into a wall outlet? Thus a continues power source? Just a guess.

Quartz watches only 'tick' to save power.

I think being plugged in is a pretty big part of it. The only wall clock I’ve ever seen tick were cheap battery powered units. All of the plug-in/hardwired clocks I’ve seen in schools etc have always been gliding smooth as silk…
