You don’t need an Apple Watch. It’s redundant with your phone, actually tied you more to your phone (let’s face it you need your phone to email and send text of any significance), is yet another device to charge, you do not need something to tell you if you pushed in the gym or not, only god knows what Apple is doing with all that data, and finally there is no long term data on the radiation or what ever is being emitted by these devices, so plenty of reasons to bench the Apple and wear the Rolex. Until the Apple Watch actually replaces the phone which it never will by dint of size, it’s not necessary and the downside far outweighs the perceived benefits. At best, you become more classically conditioned to your phone and obsessive about checking for this and that. Not healthy.

Wore Rolex and AP for twenty years. Switched to the Apple Watch and the rest collect dust.
It's much lighter, low maintenance and fit my lifestyle and who I am better. |

I mean if you are the Nature Boy, you can style and profile with both on your wrist. For the rest of us I’d go Rolex. I am a big tech enthusiast and did have an Apple Watch which I sold. They aren’t really that useful and the screen is so small it’s hard to use. Having it vibrate to alert to calls when phone is on silent I’ll give you that, that’s useful but for everything else it’s easier to look at your iPhone than fiddle around with the tiny screen on the Apple Watch.

I have an iPhone for all my needs and a GMT II for keeping time. I'd rather have my Rolex.

I see a bunch of people mention charging (another device to charge...), but I have to say, there isn’t much to deal with. The battery has no issue lasting all day, so at the end of the day, I put the watch down on the charging stand and that’s it. In the morning when I get up, I put the watch on, fully charged. Nothing to worry about or think about. Quote:

Have you thought about selling your watches if you don't use them? Or planning on passing down as heirlooms? Curious |

You have an iPhone right? Junk the Apple Watch. My wife has both iPhone and Apple Watch and doesn’t answer either. If you’re not going to use/answer the damn phone at least you can look good!

Definitely just wear the Apple watch.
Put the Rolex in a safe. In a few years post back here and ask how much it's worth. |

Apple Watch... not a watch, it’s another gadget. I never understood the fascination for them.

Apple watch for workouts and when you need to be in touch with the world. Rolex for all other times - makes the transition clearer, which is good for your mental health too!

Everyone has to find their individual sweet soot for this ‘smart watch’ balance. I totally appreciate those who see no value in ever wearing a smart watch. I use mine (Garmin Fenix 6) only during workouts (weights, running, mountain biking) to track heart rate, calorie burn and workout stats and for things like yardwork, hunting, etc. I prefer and switch back to my mechanical watch for all other times, including during sleep most nights. I do not sync my smart watch with phone notifications like text messages, email, etc as I find it annoying and duplicative of the phone that is almost always with me anyway... This approach seems to work pretty well. I don’t care about daily step count, tracking HR throughout the day, random notifications on my wrist, etc. I use the smart watch as a fitness tool and a rough activity (beater) watch.
Going way back, I used to wear a Marathon SAR mountain biking, shooting sports, hunting, etc. It certainly never failed me, but it doesn’t seem like the ideal tool for that type of wear now adays as the Suunto and now Garmin lines have evolved. I prefer to use the lighter weight and more rugged Garmin type watch for those things. Have moved away from the Apple watch completely though - My Garmin gives me a full week of battery life compared to daily charging on the Apple. The Apple watch will simply not cut it for the lengthy activities I choose to regularly engage in. |
