Was at my AD 2 weeks ago and lots of exhibition pieces. Called again today and a number of them no longer there - wonder if they do occasionally sell them !

I always believed they were "real models" the ones I held were the same weight etc. Not like there wasn't a movement in them. Right?

And then if they are real and can be "tracked and sold" easier for Rolex than to have a bunch of empty/demo cases floating around.

But the watches are set to a set time 10:10:31 and it cant be changed, so are the AD's taking them apart in store and "fixing" them?

I knew a place in Niagara Falls called the sundowner where they operated similarly. They may say not for sale, untrue.

I was at my local AD last week and they said exactly that - they were being collected and taken to another AD next week.

They do sell it. My SA told me Rolex’d ship all papers later that means they are good to sell those pieces then they’d get new pieces to be display then keep going.

At my local AD in Melbourne, all the "display"pieces are real and for the "right" buyer will be sold. These are the same pieces that once stayed in the safe till the right buyer came along, they now have them on display, that's the only difference

As I mentioned in a previous thread, these watches have a plate installed into the movement impeding the same. I have it on good authority that they are NOT dealer stock, are not billed to the AD and cannot be sold. They can even be taken back and redistributed by Rolex HQ whenever they wish, rotating between different locations and ADs. It is prohibited to open or tamper with them in any way. Only Rolex HQ can reenable the movement. I have also been told that “these” pieces are destined for internal sales afterwards, to AD employees etc. so after they’ve done the rounds they’re to be sold internally ONLY at the customary heavily discounted prices to staff and employees at ADs.

All info from ADs

True "display" pieces are supplied by Rolex and are non-functioning. There's a real movement, and the time can be set, but they cannot be wound. Those are, to my knowledge, the property of Rolex and are on loan. Typically it's an almost identical set for each dealer receiving them.

Otherwise, sounds like it's just dealers using pieces from their own inventories and putting up the sign so they can let people try them on, but maintaining discretion over whom to sell to.

When chatting to my AD a couple of months ago, when I first saw the EO watches they told me that the have the full range but rotate the display, so they may have a BLRO on display this week/month but change that for the BLNR the following week/month.

Of course that may be a complete load of bull sugar, and they’ve sold it to someone more worthy that me, but they did show me both watches to prove their point, the BLNR was on display, the BLRO wasn’t but it did have an EO tag.

The ones my AD said they were getting were real but could not function. He said they could "take them in the back" and do something to them and then they worked. Imagine that! Let's take it apart, flip something, slap it back together and you buy it. Talk about crazy!! If they can make real ones for display, then they can make real ones for sale. It's that simple.

All the exhibition only models are normal Rolex - they say it’s not for sale but they do sell them… To good clients.
Models which are provided by Rolex and can’t technically be sold are the ones that are not functional and at 10:10:31 and 28 if date.

If I wait a year for a watch, I do not want an ex-display model, instead of a brand new Rolex. More crappy Rolex/AD customer service - if they sell these as new watches. I wouldn't accept an ex-display Casio if I wanted to purchase a new one of them either. If I am spending £10,000 rather than £10 even more so.

If these demo pieces sent by local RL distributor, so they rotate from ADs to ADs after some period. There will be some pieces allocate to AD directly for demo which can be sold later as well so it's a mixed.

Lol I had a friend who went there for the first time and when he came back he said “That was the first time I have ever been to a place like that and thought I was going to lose a tooth”

Has anyone actually tried to change the time on these exhibition pieces? I feel like it poses an opportunity to make things very uncomfortable for the SA.

The ones that have stickers are for sale just depends who you are…..I know 2 people that have purchased strait from the case. Its at the AD discretion who to sell to. My aunt got a candy pink op from a Los Angeles area AD that was also “exhibition”

I asked about the exhibit pieces with my SA and he said it's real but Rolex just didn't finish a small part of the complication inside so it wouldn't run. Eventually the AD will send it back to Rolex and they will finish up the complication to be sold.

Time can be set on all of them. I remarked on the SkyD time being off and SA mentioned that people were curious how you even set one in the first place, so he’d been showing them.

My SA said they are real watches but that the movement has been disconnected, and can and will be reconnected before its sold
