World Time Opinions Needed
I am experiencing a bit of a dilemma and im hoping to get some feedback and advice from the forum.
I recently purchased a 5110g with box and papers, and really do love the watch. However, a 5110p also just came up, and im thinking of trading in the 5110g for the 5110p. My question is this...a) should I trade up, and b) assuming both are in the same relative condition and I really like the look of both, how much cash should I add to the trade in order for it to make sense. I'd be going from a 5110g (box + papers) to a 5110p (box + extract from the archives). as always, I appreciate everyones thoughts. |

As a previous g owner and now a p owner, I highly recommend the p! PP 5110p is THE iconic PP world timer IMO.

I think the P is gorgeous...but I just can't read the time on it. Have you seen one in person?

I just went through the same situation you have last month. Here, I was asked to add around $10k-12k to trade from a G to a P. The look is similar but the P has a good feel of weight to it and a nice blue dial which, as raclaims stated, is very hard to read the time. In the end, I didn't trade for a P, but instead traded for an R due to readability issue and the state of my collection needing a rose gold (and I can't have my collection missing the 5110 ).
As for your decision, IMHO 5110 is the best world time regardless of metal and if you like the P's dial and the weight, go for it. The pros to the P is that it's less abundant than G and the $$$ needed to get from gold to platinum isn't as daunting as, say, a 5070. You can't really make a wrong choice here. |

yeah, ive read about legibility issues, but hadn't really seen that as a problem when I handled it. maybe ill have to try it on again. the $10k - $12k was essentially what I was thinking as well. Do others think its a big deal to go from original papers to archive papers?

I have the P and it is my personal favorite Patek WT! The blue guilloche is simply amazing and legibility is perfect. I highly recommend and would change from G to P in a NY minute or Pittsburgh for that matter.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll definitely wait for another one with original papers to come up. I guess I'll think about it more in the meantime
