Back to the Future

We've probably all made purchase decisions that we have later regretted. If you could jump in a DeLorean like Michael Fox and go back in time. Which watch would you tell your former self not to buy and why?
For me it would be a Yellow Gold Cellini manual wind on a leather strap from a jewellers in Spain during a vacation in 1990s. An impulse purchase. I bought into the name rather than the watch. Never really wore it except for formal events. Sold it a few years later to help fund a car purchase. Promised myself I'd never buy an expensive watch ever again haha.

I would tell myself not to buy the Reverso because I won't wear it enough. I bought it well, so I really wont lose too bad, but still.

Funny you should say that because I've been toying with the idea of getting a dual face for some time. Probably would go stainless steel on a black strap. What stops you enjoying the watch, interested to get an existing owners view.

It’s the same watch you’re considering, I think. It’s a great watch, honestly. I just hardly wear it, considering it’s my most expensive piece.

None, love 'em all, no regrets. Well, maybe expecting more from the Patek 5167. Thought it was a sports watch, yet it's just sporty.

Why are you not wearing it? Is it because it’s somehow dressy and not suited for casual wear?

I am doing research for the Jaeger-LeCoultre 240.8.18 ref and I’d swear it would be one of my top watches.

Here’s an online picture of it:

I regret purchasing a OP39 brand new. Looking back I just wanted a watch that said rolex on it. ended up selling it at a loss..

I bought that Grande GMT Reverso just before it was discontinued.
Hardly wear it , but would never sell it. Love it.

My subC. I wanted one and was impatient.

A week later my AD offered me a SD43, which I bought and prefer.

I think some of us have had to make a few mistakes to learn what we do and don’t like

Probably this grand seiko SGBK005. Amazing watch. Amazing dial. Just don’t have as much need for a dressy watch these days. Additionally, the AP15450 is starting to fill the niche of an all blue dial but I digress.

114060. Wanted “classic” model. Never bonded with it. Eventually ended up with 116610 which corrected that mistake. Wasn’t to costly though at the time! Been happy ever since.

If I could do it over, I would have tried to keep every Rolex I sold or traded to end up with my current watches.

My biggest mistake was the IWC Da Vinci. chrono Model 376403. It was beautiful to look at in pictures but once on my wrist I did not bond with it. It was the older model that was an oblong shape. IWC seems to have changed back to a round shape for this model and I think more people might consider it because all the specs of the watch were excellent . Just the shape was too strange for me once I wore it some. It was also pretty big being 43X51.

You nailed it. It’s a lovely watch, I just need to make it a point to wear it more.

The one you are hunting down it’s probably for the same reasons why I got mine. It’s a great looking one, as well.

Probably should’ve gone with those vintage pre-moon speedmasters instead of the Ball Engineer because it was “newer and less upkeep”. Oh well.

No regrets. And +10 on the Reverso. I have a few that I wear quite often. You don't have to be so "formally dressed" as people think to pull it. Some pieces are quite sporty.
