My day date winds very tight, does it need a service?

I have a double quickset day date that runs within COSC specs (+1sec/day). However, when I manual wind the movement, it is very tight compared to the other day dates I own with the same caliber movement? My question is does this movement need to be serviced? I don't know the service history and the shop I bought it from doesn't either. They did tell me it was good for at least one year before it needs a service? How do they know that if they don't know the history?

Sounds like the barel grease is drying up.

Service is a good idea to make sure it is not more and to make sure there is not any "colateral" damage.

Bring it in!

Even if the shop didnt know the service history, they probably knew the condition of the movement. I'm sure they at least opened it up before buying it. If it was running accurately with good amplitude they were comfortable selling it.

They can't really predict when it'll need service - perhaps they were stating it shouldn't need one within their 1 yr guarantee?

Check the power reserve. If the watch runs at least 20 hours after you've worn it for a whole day, you're fine. If it doesn't, the oil on the automatic and winding mechanism is dry, ands you're potentially doing damage by waiting longer.

That's definitely not always the case! I think a lot of shops just check to see if the second hand starts moving and hope for the best!

Thus the word probably...

But all commercial buyers I know will open it before making an offer. Mostly to avoid the infamous Chinese movements.

Thanks Vanessa, the reserve is at least 48 hours. After 1 day of wear, it takes 2 days to run down to a stop.
