Is HUBLOT a good watch?

What’s the consensus on HUBLOT? They look pretty neat and interesting..

JC Biver is a marketing genius. Which is a shame. If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be subjected to Hublot in our face everywhere we turn! Let’s hope he doesn’t manage to do the same with Tag!

No, just the typically brand snobbery. Certain forums have certain watches they love... and hate.

Hublot isn't my personal taste:

But they are certainly no uglier than your average Richard Mille. Certainly one could easily confuse one for the other...

Heck, the Big Bang looks an AWFULLY lot like a royal Royal Oak, and that's a good design, right? Don't believe me?

If you love one, go for it!

If you found a girl/guy attractive but others didn’t, would it matter? Same should hold true for a watch. Who cares!

For the record, I like Hublot. Don’t own one, wouldn’t hesitate to buy one even if everyone else didn’t “approve”.

This is why some ADs serve beer :) Remember, Don’t drink and shop.

For the record, I’ve made poor judgement in both these arenas after two many drinks lol!

Bad decisions (but good watches and jewelry) ensue.

The first "expensive" watch I bought myself was the Hublot Classic Fusion. I have gotten more compliments on this piece than my Rolexes. I like the classic fusion line but I'm not a fan of the big bangs, and I wouldn't pay 5 figures for them.

Their marketing budget has to rival Red Bull’s.

I might get shot for this but I see no difference between them and Royal Oak Offshores.

I'll skip right over the irony of a marketing critique on a Rolex forum, and say
like any other brand, they make watches I find attractive and watches I don't so much:

^I'll leave y'all wondering where I stand on that one ^

If you like them then stuff what anyone else thinks. However,if you're someone who likes to change or trade watches often, buy on the secondary market.

Hublot gets a lot of hate on watch forums. They make some ugly watches and they also make a lot of nice watches. Since they're not as conservative as other brands, they use a lot of materials which makes them pretty interesting in my opinion.

Like others have said, if you like them go for it.

I feel like this post has been put up on purpose just to trigger me!

I posted the below a few weeks back about the brand...

Hublot get an unfair bashing because of the similarities to AP and RM. For me they are just fantastic pieces of art.

JCB (my watch idol - I hang off his every word) has been asked specifically about this likeness and answers the question perfectly, referencing Patek copying AP in the early days of the RO.

Most innovations are not truly appreciated at the time of conception. Regrettably Jean Claude Biver is in bad health, I do wish him a healthy recovery. However, when he passes the brand will likely see a resurgence and some of the pieces that WIS community hate will likely become collectibles.

I have a Hublot on my grail list and would pick one up ahead of most 'hot' pieces. Moreover, I owe it to my man JCB to be in the Hublot club. Living legend.

They make fine watches. Some designs I like, some I don't, like so many other brands, Rolex included.

The issue most likely sits with the borrowing of design language from other pieces which are highly recognisable.

Adding rubber straps is a hublot thing though, so it cuts both ways.

Hublot (meaning porthole in French) were the first to 'fuse' gold and rubber in the same watch. An industry first and the inspiration for the names, fusion & the big bang.

They've continued to be innovative and bring new and old materials together (their MO). They have also created new precious alloys & composites like red gold and scratch proof 'magic gold' etc.

Did you know the comparisons to AP were only highlighted when AP began to offer rubber straps? Their products were considered very innovate at the time they launched. So maybe AP (& every other brand that now uses rubber - basically everyone) copied off Hublot then? Oh no no no, we couldn't possibly suggest that.

Do y'all feel the Nautilus has copied off the Royal Oak? What's the difference? Yes both designed by the late, great Genta but AP were furious at the time and it was considered a direct rip off of the RO. Of course, nobody has this view now.

They signed a 20 year soccer endorsement deal which helped to catapult them into the mainstream media & this also brought a new type of buyer to the luxury watch game. Their popularity leapfrogged them above other more traditional brands steeped in history, this then turned the WIS community against them. It's like as soon as something is mainstream it's no longer acceptable for the WIS community to appreciate it. Like some unwritten code of conduct. A choice for the uninformed, superficial brand, shame Biver is a marketing genus, it's just a fashion watch blah blah blah.

OP - If you want to score points with the WIS community don't buy one. If the brand interests you, do you own homework and make an informed choice.

I consider myself a bit of a WIS. I could 'out geek' a lot of users on this forum but have very different tastes to the typical WIS buyer.

Let's face it, the watch game has moved on somewhat over the last 15 years or so and it's a new world we are in. Some of the old guard on here don't like the new enthusiasts, their disdain seeps out of their posts.

Birds of a feather flock together.

*Rolls sleeves up*
