Some dog help/advice
Hi All
I know you all are dog lovers on here so just want to get some advice if anyone has encountered this. Out of nowhere our English bulldog has randomly started to be aggressive/bark at dogs even from the other side of road while walking. Not normally like that before. I am doing clicker training to try and help manage this and have vet booked, blood tests and xrays to check health. Plus paid for a dog behaviourist to come and help us. Its so strange though was in the park about two days ago and he was around loads of dogs and was fine with them. Its so random. Has anyone had this with their dog and if yes how did they manage it and what caused it. |

Norma does this every so often as well, although it’s usually when she see’s litlle kids or old people say with a walker or wearing sunglasses and a hat ….
It’s random but when it happens it’s a bit embarrassing I chalk it up to having a bad day, maybe dogs are like people in that sense because as I said it’s totally random and not all that often. As long as your dog is socialized with other animals and people it could just be random. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How old is the dog? Usually they develop their adult personalities at 3. Your dog can be taking on its adult personality and trying to be the alpha in that situation. The behaviorist is the right person to work with.

I don’t believe in random, only that we haven’t identified the situation…yet. How often does it happen? Every other dog? Is the aggression always towards a different dog, or always the same dog? No problem with other people? Any changes in your own home? Sometimes it’s tough to narrow down, but you need to find what’s different. Dogs are comfortable and at ease with routine.

Is it a sign of fear? And it shows itself as aggression

When walking my English Bulldog, he would bark at other dogs when on a leash, but was fine with other dogs as long as I wasn’t around. Per vet, it’s a protection thing, he thinks it’s his job to keep other dogs away and keep you safe. It started when he was about 2 or so and never stopped. Up until then, he was a complete teddy bear.

My schnauzer has been doing the same. Started around two years of age.
And after a lot of bigger digs have showed aggression to her. I now keep treats on me and I keep her occupied when I see it coming on. Training her with positive reinforcement.

I have an 11 year old (next week) French Bulldog who’s behaviour changed like yours at 2. I believe it was my friends Schnauzer that barked at every dog caused mine to be the aggressive ‘fixer’. I tried everything including treats to stop it. Nothing worked and I stopped trying as he was and still is so gentle with humans.

It so strange what gets them started. I have done the positive reinforcement bit before trainer comes. We practice now everyday for around 15mins and the kids do it to. |

They have unhinged moments and unhinged phases like we do, monitor and manage.

Yep, saying that their instincts make ours look like a new born baby.

Strange you say that...Tito is somewhat the same. He will stay outside our home with no leash and he will stay around us and not even cross the lot line when people walk etc. As soon as he sees a person with a mask he starts to growl. If he sees a person using a motorized wheelchair like you see at Walmart he wants to give chase. The best instigator for him and I have no reason why, is a person on a skateboard,. One day my wife called me and said he took off after the skateboarder with her running after him for about two blocks.
