Verizon's New Sneaky 'Stealth Cookie' to track user's data

With companies like Google, tracking everything you use them for is their business. A lot of people don't care about what Google knows about them, but a Reddit user's post today really drove it all home for me.

Quote:
Hey bro, can I get a list of all the websites you visit, where you bank, what your amazon viewing history is, every porn vid you've watched, and any medical info you've searched for?

I'd also like your location data for the last 2 years, I'm just going to tie that to any numbers you text or call as well.

No big deal, this is just for a permanent spreadsheet I'm making, Thanks!
This was all in regards to revelations that Verizon Wireless and other providers are altering user's data to insert unique identifiers and track their usage themselves.

Working for a search engine has really opened my eyes to a lot of this kind of stuff- and I know there are users here that care about their privacy. Do you guys use Google / Yahoo! / Bing for all your searches? Do you care about the profiles they're building about you with your Internet history?

There are a couple of options:

Use TOR browser, which will help somewhat.

What I usually do is check out lots of sites that I have no interest in, and inside Amazon, look at reviews of movies and books that I am not interested in. The goal is to mask your true profile, or at least make it blurry. I am too old to visit porn sites: I'd have to order viagra if I did and I already get flooded with male enhancement ads (do they know something I don't?).

PS: No matter what site I visit, I see ads for Bob's Watches, which tells me I spend WAY to much time on TRF.

Like him or not, Edward Snowden made what I think is an accurate, albeit pointed observation about privacy: we don't have any anymore.

Anything privacy-based is slowly becoming more and more popular after the Snowden files. Snowden helped a lot of people realize that they need to be a little more careful with what they're putting out there.
