How 3 became 1

This is my first post in the PP discussion forum. Until very recently I had a humble little 3 watch collection of vintage rolexes (1016, 5513 and 1680).

By chance I was talking with a dealer i'd dealt with and asked him to keep me in mind if he had any nice vintage pieces coming in. Anything else he asked? No nothing, unless of course you happen to get in my holy grail watch. What's that he said? A Nautilus I replied, but quickly followed that up with I know how rare they are particularly on the 2nd hand market.

Much to my surprise he sent me back a photo of a 5711. He said he had been holding onto it for 9 months as he didn't want to sell it to just anyone - but someone who would appreciate it for what it is. Turns out, I was the 1st person since then who had asked if he had one. I cannot explain why he would not have not put it on his site earlier. All I can say is I am extremely glad he didn't.

In the days of collections growing I guess I am going against the grain with my all eggs in the one basket approach. Can't say I mind though, its an easy decision on which watch to put on every morning! Also, if there is 1 watch that can supposedly cover all bases I am happy to nominate Mr 5711.

So here it is ... my 1 watch collection ... a 2013 Patek 5711 with box and papers and a Patek Tie :-)

Great story! What a tough decision you had to make ... Letting go of those vintage must have been tough.

Congrats on your beautiful 5711

Congrats on your beautiful 5711
Yes it was a sleepless night. But in the end, i'd always dreamed of one day getting the 5711 so I just pinned my ears back and went for it. I was particularly fond of my 1016 but I just couldn't keep it. Weirdly, knowing what I had to give up to get it just adds to my enjoyment of it - its funny how that works.

The three Rolex you traded are certainly beautiful in their own right. Your dealer is likely as happy as you are this morning -- talk about a win-win! Congrats on your 5711 grail. It's a stunner.

Congrats on landing one of the greatest "one-watch" models ever! It will serve you well. You gave up some nice pieces, but I (among others) would say you did the right thing.

Congrats. Beautiful watch by way of a very hard decision I am sure. I have never flipped a watch, but have looked back on card that I have sold and wished I had them back.

Congrats! Certainly a bold move but sounds like you have arrived. Now you just need to replace rolex in your name with patek! LOL
