Requiring Names on Profiles

JJ posted something on this already but I wanted to bring it up again. I suggest that it be made mandatory that people put their names in their profiles. It is very aggravating trying to reply to someone who does not have a name in their profile.

I'm tired trying to figure out peoples names from their screen names. When I can't figure it out directly from their screen names I end up writing something like this using their screen names:

Hey DswnX34,

Nice watch you have there.

Regards,
Ronnie

For those that don't have their names down please go to Edit Profile and scroll down until you come to the box that says "What is your real name?"

Heck, I don't care if you use a fake name. Just use some kind of name that makes sense!

I have to agree with Ronnie on this one, guys.

It feels silly, embarrassing and downright annoying when I feel like I'm talking to some robot from Star Wars or a friggin' zombie from a low-budget horror film!!

Come on, guys....just asking for a FIRST name - not your credit card number of bank pin code!!

Cheers - JJ

While I agree everyone could put their first name or some first name in their profile, it has never been mandatory, and there is no way to make it so. A member could just put "*" or some other meaningless character and no better result than the username would be achieved.
Disclosing ones name, even a christian name is matter of personal choice, but hopefully most members will appreciate that it is a much more rewarding experience to give a first name.

Not exactly an acronym, Chris. My name is a Persian, rather unusual name, very difficult for most people to pronounce.....even back home in Bombay.

So I have actually used my initials (the second "J" being my dad's name). I would use my initials on such a regular basis that the name "JJ" just stuck!!

The software makes it optional and that is where the issue should probably be addressed!

I also wish everyone would list their real names or at least a pen name that sounds like a real name, like Bob, Jack, Sue, etc.

As JJ once said, it just feels so weird to address someone by their handle, especially when it's something like R2D2C3PO or Jackenwackenbush. It just feels ridiculous, frankly.

Btw, Mireyna I know you asked for no comments on your name so I won't but I will say that if I ever met someone else named Mireyna I'd tell her that she has a very beautiful and exotic sounding name. Unless she asked me not to comment on her name, of course. But even then I'd be thinking it.

My first thought was to be a wise crack and use Persian, but I decided to use my southern name.

My name is Seymour Butt.

Here's a story (true as it happened to me).

I got pulled over for speeding a couple of years ago and I told the officer that this is my first speeding offence since I started driving in 1987.

He brought down the offence from 50 over to 10 over the speed limit and just gave me a $40 fine with no points deducted. After he handed me the ticket, I saw his initials. Guess what it stated?

"B. Hines".
