Icon5 Jared's Jewelers

I've noticed quite a few members have been able to allocate a SS Daytona from Jared's Jewelers. Are they an Authorized Rolex Dealer?

Yes they are. I was offered a black face SS Daytona a month ago, but I turned it down.

I went to the Rolex.com site but couldn't find them as an authorized dealer in Southern California.

Not all Jared locations are an authorized dealer.

I'm pretty certain that the Jared's here in Albuquerque isn't a Rolex AD. I've been over there a couple of times in the last couple of months, but I was pricing Omegas. I saw no Rolexes, at all.

Jared only has select locations that sell Rolex. They are all listed on the Rolex website. For example, in Illinois, they have numerous locations, but only their St. Charles, Orland Park, and Aurora location sell Rolex and are ADs in Illinois. I got an SS white dial Daytona from them a couple of months ago. I never bought from them before, and I was on the list only for a week.

Apparently there are none in So. Cali. The closest one would be in Arizona. That's too bad.

I turned one down as well. They wouldn't ship to save tax so I passed.

You could always ship it to a TRF brother......say, in Texas.......and after a few months you will get it back.

Yeah but I'd still get stuck paying the tax on it.

I found one at an AD that would ship and got it overnight.

I hate that policy Jared has.

Jared in Pittsburgh is an AD. I will gladly get it for you and ship it out when I'm done. Seriously, I'm not sure, since they are a chain store, that there is much negotiating with them. Never bought anything there.

Jared is a high priced Kay Jewelers...really. Owned and run by the same corporation, Sterling. Horrible stock (SIG), lousy company and lucky to sell Rolex.
Question is why Rolex would choose these folks to represent them.
It's not a real fine jewelery store in my opinion.
I love owner operated stores with great service, long traditions of integrity and the kind of professionalism rarely found in retail today.

Hello. I was under the impresson Jareds was an AD, maybe I'm wrong. As for the SS Daytona, I must say unless I'm verly lucky, I have seen 3 of then here in Vegas over the last month and I'm not even really looking for them. Maybe they are getting a bit easier to find or maybe the global economy is coming into play as far as inventory is concerned.

Even though Jared's is a national chain and only certain stores are Rolex ADs, I still give them props for not playing games. A few years ago, I was looking for an LV and they were the only AD who would sell me one. The other ADs wanted to know what I bought from them previously.

Lucky my AD is in such a small town and has two locations, they have all the watches and don't have enough customers to afford playing favorites or games. Not in the DR, but back in the USA. They work real hard to service and sell.
I think they are almost 100 years in business.

I bought my GMTc from Jared's in Houston last year. They have only 1 location in Houston that is an AD, other locations are not. I liked the service they gave me, the salesman was very nice and informed. They will not discount though.

I have bought a couple of Rolex Watches from Jared's including my Daytona. The locations that carry Rolex are AD's (not grey) and I have had wonderful service from them. With my Daytona they also gave me an extra link and spring bar for free. The manager at the store I shop at could not be nicer and she always calls me when they get something they think I might be interested in. They also have given me discounts.

They anything else, I am sure they have good and and bad people working for them but please don't bash the whole company.... That is just not fair or accurate!

This is not true of every location or the chain in general in my experience.

My point really is that it a chain store, affiliated with Kay Jewelers.
And that I prefer owner operated ADs, which no Jared can compete with....no matter how good the service or salesperson is.
I come from a small town where its easy to talk to the owner of a store without the attitude generally associated with big city ADs.
At my owner operated AD, I actually speak to the person who'se best interest is taking care of me. I always prefer to deal with the owner rather than an employee- my mentality I guess.
I just don't tend to patronize national chains either.

I have been in local independently owned AD's that have had sales people that had no idea that the green sub was an anniversary model. I also have bought a couple of Rolex watches at independent stores and have had great service.

My point is that there are good and bad AD's and sales people and just because they are owned independently does not automatically make them better. It depends on the management of that local store and their culture. Just don't blast an entire company with generalizations.

For some reason Jared the Jeweler locations here in California do not carry Rolex watches. They do carry Omega and Tag Heuer though.

I have to say I would have preferred to purchase my Rolex form a local Jeweler but to be honest I had by far the best treatment at the local Jared's. When I walked in the door a lady greeted me and asked if she could help me in any way and I mentioned I was there to look at the Rolex line and she immediately introduced me to the Rolex salesman. The salesman was a younger guy who was very enthusiastic about watches and was pretty knowledgeable. He was very personable and accommodating and just a pleasure to deal with. They offered me coffee and snacks and really went out of their way to make the experience special.

I will say have been in there since and none of the familiar faces were there and I have been ignored so maybe it was just a fluke.

That is another reason to deal with the owner. He isn't going to be a car salesman next year and an insurance broker the following.
My experience has always been great when you ask to speak with the owner and he/she is there. Basically works in most business situations.

I agree that dealing with a family owned AD is much better for many reasons including more flexibility on discounts and the ability to develop a better long term relationship. After all, the family has a stake in the outcome of your visit. My wife's good friend sells watches (including Rolex) at a local Jared's and admits she knows very little about the brand and has almost no say in discounting. She has had training that she calls "very incomplete" and the branches operate like a car dealer meaning the sales person must get managerial approval for discounts above 5%.

This may be specific only to this Jared location. I have bought a lot of watches, including one from Jared's. As my knowledge has increased, I have learned that family operated AD's generally treat you better overall. Just my $0.02, IMHO, etc.

Felly:

Retailers cannot ship tax free to states in which they operate a retail establishment. The problem with national retail chains is that there usually are no states where they don't do business. Jared is not following a policy, it's just complying with the laws in every state where it owns a store.

Cheers,

Chris

.About a year ago Jared's in Columbus,Ohio, an AD, called to say my black face Daytona had come in and did I still want it? I said yes and would be in after work to pick it up...An hr later they called back to say that a mistake had been made and the watch had been promised by their GM to a favorite "guest" as they call the suckers. Needless to say I was a bit hot. I was told I was first on the list for another one. No call since then. If they do call I may not be a buyer. Not a good experience!
