Thats the last thing you want to do.

You should simply use your hands and normal liquid soap.
Nothing harsh.
Afterwhich dab dry with soft cloth.

Occassionally, go over very lightly with cape cod cloth to clear the oxidisation.
And afterwhich, very soft high quality paper towels which do not scratch.
