I've bought numerous PPs (5960, 5167, et. al.) at full retail from my AD. Never asked for a discount and never was offered one.

That being said, when the time came that my AD knew of an incoming 5131, they offered me the opportunity to apply and purchase it. Obviously, I jumped on it.

So the lesson may be ... be careful of what you ask for.

I think the price difference between bracelet and strap is about $3 K retail.
You can buy the strap version below 18K from AD.

Has anyone purchased a Patek from an authorized dealer and received a discount? What were the circumstances? (frequent buyer, knew somebody, slow seller, gold vs. steel)?

I guess I'm curious about any model, but specifically wonder about SS Nautilus (5711, 5980, 5712, 5726).

I plan to go to a sales-tax free state (Shreve in Portland, Oregon, USA), and just wonder what kind of "shot" I might have, and how best to approach it?
You can find decent discounts from ADs, but usually there are deeper discounts to be had in the grey market, as is the case with most watch brands.

I live in Portland and all I can say is good luck getting a discount from Shreve. Not saying you won't but I have been told on numerous visits that they provide "serivce" instead of discounting. Granted I have never pulled out my wallet ready to purchase so I don't know if they will or not. I never pay full retail for a watch so when/if they have something I want, it will be interesting to see what they will say. They do know me and that I am a watch guy. i have worn my AP ROO's and IWC Perp calander in when looking so they know I at least have the means to drop 30K + on a watch.

Good luck OP. let us know how it goes...

ADs does give discounts unless its ultra rare or hard to get models. Taiwan AD gives discounts on all Nautilus models. They give me 15% off without even negotiating and I am not a VIP because I never bought from that PP AD.

I would expect (and have received) considerable discounts even for a new and supposedly hard-to-find Patek. That means 15-20% off retail. If people deliberately want to pay full retail to be "that guy" that the AD calls when some of the truly rare items come in, then that's certainly fine too. I'm just not that guy. They presumably have thicker wallets than me.

Tw list price is similar to US price.

As for discount on hard to find PP, it depends, I hardly doubt anyone can get discount on watches like 5131.

I had to look that one up, and, ....wwwwow! But if I could afford that watch, I'd have Michael Shumacher give me a lift in my RR Phantom to the AD in Beverly Hills, and I wouldn't give a hoot about getting my precious discount.

I'm sure application pieces are an entirely different ball game.

I got 18% off on 5711 at AD here in Taiwan. Actual cost was ~23700 USD.. not sure if that's 18% compared to US retail.

No way anyone's getting a discount on a 5131, IMO. It's a miracle to even have a shot at getting one.

I am thinking about getting a 5980/1A, if I do go for it I will aim to get at least 18% off then, thanks for the info.

Speak their language. Don't ask for a discount, ask for an 'accomodation'.
