AP Limited Editions & Openworked Watches

Have always been enthralled by AP’s catalogue of limited edition watches & openwork models but at the same time know those are incredibly hard to ever purchase directly from AP boutiques or houses.

Would love to hear stories from multi-watch collectors here who have any limited release pieces and their journey getting there. One can dream… :)

How do allocations for watches even work once you hit your 7th / 8th / 9th watch with the brand?

It’s not necessarily as much of a black box as some may imagine, but it definitely does depend on which limited/special edition pieces you’re referring to, and also the market in which you are contending for such pieces. For a non-limited edition piece like openworked, assuming you’ve established yourself as a good client, it is then a matter of waiting (because of smaller distribution number per boutique relative to number of qualified clients requesting it). In all cases, it does necessarily involve the relationship you have with your SA and boutique manager who either makes the selection or ‘advocates’ on your behalf.

Hopefully when I stop working 100 hour weeks I will have the time to write something substantive!

What about a blog Roger? Just add content as and when you have the time to make an entry.

I thought about that G but then it would be counter my “below the radar” stance of the last 18 months and to give people the information they really want would betray confidences of industry insiders with whom I am connected. Sometimes silence is a virtue.
