Mines a V serial, no lug holes, but imo the Sea-Dweller should of kept the lug holes till the end of the model line, like the 14060m.

I concur. I think the holes gives it a bit more of character.

Welcome to the club buddy!

I was in search for a special to my heard Sea-Dweller. As you all my know, my name begins with an A and I was born April 9. So an A serial would put it 1999 lol

Anyway, I have found one at the price point that is fair. Cant wait to have the holes back!

Alfred,

I believe, the A serial (P serial as well) is the first year of SEL and there will be "no slots" in the back of the SEL for the springbar tool. These slots were put in later and are redundant if you have lugholes.

I would guess that rolex later decided to combine the slots with lughole to avoid problems of putting a no slots bracelet in a case without lugholes...the bracelet would then have to be cut off.

A late production sea dweller, factory original complete. Still in plastic would be a bonus.

enjoying the pictures in the meantime

Thank you for the kind words.

I used a small light box with two off-camera strobes. A dark panel held above to make any crystal glare "disappear" (reflecting black).

Gus

You are correct

I just wanted an A for Alfred Its my favorite Year because of estimated production of 1999... I was born on April 9. So when I see A serial Rolexes I get an urge to buy it...

The SELs first appeared on the 16660 in 1980...They were 592s..
Later they changed to 592Bs on the 16600...

i don't think there is a difference?

cant judge by my photo, there is lens distortion from the macro mode.

There is a slight difference in the thickness of the case on P serial and older. They are Thinner. K serial and up are a bit beefier cases. I should have taken a photo side by side of my A serial, Y serial and an F serial before I sold the F and Y. I think CLay has 3 of them and could verify this easily. If I get another one in Ill do side by side shots.

Yeah! The Y and the M should have the same thickness. P serial or older are about 1mm-2mm thinner. Ill confirm this when I get another P serial and older Sea Dweller.

It is just me or does the older one (with lug holes) look like it has a slightly beefier bezel or bezel teeth? (in the pic)

That could just be from polishing? My lug hole 16660 from 1984 has the exact same profile as your pic and it has slight polishing on the tops of the lugs that likely account for what you're seeing...
