Polish before selling?
Getting ready to sell my 116619 and 16528 and wondering if I should get them "retail" ready before listing. Obviously would only get polished by reputable. Thinking a polish would maximize sale value. Thoughts?

I am not a member of the Never Polish club but for selling it depends. For your older watch I would offer it as is, for the newer one I would have it buffed up. Most buyers of used newer models want it to look as new as possible.

I think it’s a good idea to polish the watch before selling because it is going to look more fresh

If it was me I’d sell them as is I don’t expect a used watch to look like new

Let the new owner decide if they want it to be polished or not.

For vintage, yes.
For modern, no. Because 90% of buyers want the watch to look "as new" and 99% of them won't have a clue if the case has lost a few microns of sharpness, or the crown guards are a few microns thinner than they should be. Virtually every single pre worn owned watch that the trusted sellers on here have listed have been refinished. Are you seriously trying to say that those that sell watches for a living have been getting it wrong? You will absolutely get more money for a professionally refinished white gold Sub than one which is covered in wear marks.

I'd have a professional polish on the Sub and leave the Daytona to the buyer's discretion.

That's right, all those watches are refinished. Some folks have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to sales and refinishing. Lovely watch OP, if it were mine I would certainly tidy it pre sale. |

If youre looking to sell your watches, getting them polished by a reputable source can definitely help maximize their sale value, it can make them look shiny and new, which is always attractive to potential buyers. Goodluck with your sale.

I prefer an unpolished watch personally. Would you get a full service and polish, or just simply a polish? I think they need to take the watch apart in order to do a proper polish anyway. May just be better off listing as is and see what happens. I agree to leave it up to the buyer to decide.

To OP, I wouldn’t polish, let the new owner decide. Plus a good refinish could cost upwards of $500. Im not sure you’ll see that ROI when selling. And I agree 100% with this. The used watch dealers polish everything up to make them more appealing to buyers. Who wants to pay 4k over retail for a used beat up watch? You’ll feel better paying 4k over retail for a LNIB though. Unless it’s a current year production I’m not believing those 2020 lightly worn ads. used watched dealers crack me up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Without seeing the watches it is difficult to say. My initial response is no, do not polish.

I wouldn’t buy it if it has been polished, but that’s just me. Unpolished, I at least know the west and tear and then I can make a judgement call if I want to polish later.
