I agree, don’t understand how this is perceived as “lousy watchmaking”. The Patek did the same for the 5226.

I can definitely see a YG Code in my future. The values they are at today make it a good buy on the secondary market and can't really see them losing too much more value if they do.

Having said that, OP, not to throw you off the AP train but if your budget is $23k and this will be your only nice watch, I would maybe reconsider. For $23k you can buy multiple nice watches from Omega, Rolex, Tudor etc. and build a nice small collection to start off on. This will get you familiar with luxury watches and eventually you will grow into other HH brands such as AP. But if you're really eyeing the Code and nothing else speaks to you then go for it!

I think the main thing is if you’re one and done with this one for a while and it breaks, do you know how much these cost to service and how long it takes? Be sure to get a Seiko 5 or something to go with it.

Maintenance service for a CODE 3-hander by AP is $950.

Thank you this might be a relevant consideration: it didn’t occur to me that they could just break? Do these watches also have service intervals? And also is there a major differences between the multi dial version and the single dial version apart from aesthetics ?

Recommended service interval is ~5 years I believe, but I know people that have gone for longer without issues. It’s like a car in that they're both fairly complex machines with mechanisms that should be maintained and serviced regularly for best performance.

Multi dial is a (flyback) chronograph, meaning it has a stopwatch function that you can use to time things. The seconds hand is smaller at the 6 o'clock position. Single dial is regular time and date, with a moving large seconds hand.

These watches are a bit more delicate than Rolex. Rolex can be beat on with reckless abandon and have no issues, AP is different.

That being said if you are worried about reliability or serviceability etc, stick with the most basic model
