Whats your views on this then

Was checking out e-bay and came across this auction. I asked the seller a question and this was his reply....

[B][http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:L:RTQ:UK:1/B]

Thanks for looking at the watch.
The story with this watch is that I bought it a couple of months ago on another auction site, paying $1950, which I thought was a great bargain. The watch arrived and I took it down to the Rolex approved watch repair shop in the Arndale Centre in Manchester where I had it serviced. As the watch was bought as new I didn?t expect any problems to arise, but thought I'd rather be safe than sorry with having bought it off the net. The watch came back from the service and the shop assistant told me the watches 25 jewel self-winding Swiss movement was in perfect condition and I had gotten myself a fine example of a Rolex. I then decided to get the watch valued and took it initially to a couple of jewelers in Manchester. The first couple both said they were not qualified to value a Rolex, but both took the watch off me, had a good close look at it and told me it would be worth upwards of £2000. Obviously at this stage I was very happy with my purchase. The problem arose when I took the watch to a third jeweler who said he was happy to value it. I left the watch with him over night and when I came back the next day I was told that he had taken the strap off the watch to find its serial registration number and found nothing. He told me that all the other markings on the watch were perfect, but it didn?t have this serial so he couldn't value it as real. He told me the watch was still an excellent quality timepiece, but that he could not value it as a Rolex.
I am not trying to off load a fake to anybody on ebay, I in fact did consider keeping the watch, but have decided to try and recoup some of the money I have spent on it in time for Christmas.
I am not trying to defraud anyone with this auction, which is why I have insisted that all bidders contact me before bidding, in which case I shall tell them what I have told you and allow them to make up their own minds. The watch is still in perfect condition.
Thanks for looking anyway
Ste

It sounds like a complete cock ‘n bull story to me. “The watches 25 jewel movement”? “No serial number?”. It’s a Rolex or it’s a piece of crap. I think the latter. It’s no Rolex but a fake.

Hmm.... seems a bit fishy to me.
Why would a new Sub not have any serial number?

Even on vintage 50 year old pieces that have been polished many times, you can still make out the serial nuber easily...

I would saty away from it! Just my 2 cents

I'd say don't walk, jog or trot, but run away as fast as you can.

116610? That is what the hologram says. Not sure what model that is, I think the sub date should have 16610.

Also in the straight on shot, looks like you can make out the coronet at 6:00.

If you have ever tried to take a photo of that laser etching, or even tried to see it for that matter, it is not easy. The fakes I have seen have that laser etching way to prelevent on their watches. Unlikely you would be able to see it so easily if it were a real Rolex.

Just my 2 cents

Uh, no.
Coronet too prominent, marker at zero on bezel rides too high. Not sure of sellers intent, but certainly wouldn't touch it.

Pearl in bezel sits too high and minute markers don't look right.

This scammers story makes NO difference, that watch is 100% fake.

Look at the crown logo on the dial, see how the "hole" at the bottom of the crown is almost a circle? I've NEVER seen a fake where the crown logo on the dial right, it's one of the FIRST things I look at when trying to figure out authenticity from pics.

That watch is a fake.

That thing screams FAKE from a mile away!! Avoid it like the plague!! Everything about that watch is wrong...

- 25 jewels?
- no serial number?
- wrong model number on hologram
- scores of other discrepancies!!

It's a FAKE

Sorry to say it is a fake.
1. No serial number
2. Laser coronet too obvious
3. The 'L' in Rolex is not centered under the crown correctly.
4. Great scans of the bracelet but the face is blurry?????
5. 21 jewel movement?? should be 31. I do not see how any jeweler could tell you it's OK.
6. All the other mistakes mentioned.

I've known fishermen with better stories than that one, Jon. Some poor sucker is gonna believe that load of BS and is going to be stuck with a POS.

I had been looking at that one, but when I got to the hologram picture it screamed fake. A 25 jewel movement? Is this guy nuts? Oh wait, he paid 1,900 bucks for it. Yea he is.

The POS has been sold. Let's do each other a big favor and report those fakes to eBay the next time. I wanted to do this (too late, I was passive in this as well) because it has been sold already. There is vast knowledge of Rolex watches here, most fakes are sniffed out in 1 minute or less. I’m neither a saint or a goody two shoes but I can’t stand this. Those sharks are just playing on the greed and gullibility of unsuspecting buyers. I fear the day that fakes will enter the market that are so good that they are 100% like the real McCoy. Even for an AD. This can be done you know. Second hand no more.

You don't have to fear that day, Frans. Super-duper fakes are already in the market and some are so damn good, they would fool most experts.

Just ask Padi...he almost bought a TT Blue Sub (made in Italy) with which he couldn't find a single fault....that's how good it was. Luckily the maker screwed up by engraving the serial number at '12' instead of '6' where it should be and that's how Padi found out....when he took off the bracelet to check the serial no. And all this from a guy he trusted who, in turn, bought it from another person who he thought he could trust!!

So...simple rule of thumb: Buy ONLY from an AD!!

I'd also like to mention that based on this guys low 94.8 percentage and private feedback he is not going to be trustworthy in the least... reporting may be a good idea indeed!
