Rolex Limited Edition Turn-O-Graph

Maybe this has already been covered somewhere else on this forum?

I was at a Rolex boutique in Tokyo on Saturday and they showed me two Turn-O- Graph watches they said were limited edition models for Japan only. They were priced at around 934,000 yen each.

They had a white dial Turn-O-Graph with green Turn-O-Graph lettering and a green second hand; the other a black dial version. The lady with whom I was speaking said there are 300 of each being produced for sale.

I tried on both versions. I have to say they looked great.

My scanner is not working properly, so I took a few pictures of the photo cards she gave me. I also grabbed a photo off of a Japanese web site.

Thanks for sharing Otto. The green sec hand looks more refined than the red one I reckon. What is the reason for Rolex to release a Japan only limited edition Turn-O-graph?

Green is a lucky color in the Asian culture, I am told.

My wife had me paint our front door green, in fact.

¥934,000 is a hefty markup, though. An extra $2000?

Wow I love it. Of course I am a huge fan of the TOG since I own one. I wish I could get my hands on it. Why a limited addition for only Japan?

I never even knew that Rolex had boutiques I was going to ask why they don't.
And if they do, do they have any in NYC.
Also how are the people in Tokyo doing

They are setting up a Rolex Boutique in NYC. It is actually an extension of Tourneau but it will be exclusively for Rolex.

OTTO!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Ever since I acquired my TOG from Tony G its has been in my normal rotation! Underrated timepiece for sure but these green hand iterations are Supreme! Wow! Hey Gary that Tourneau boutique is actually up and running! It kind of has that West coast LA vibe to it!

On the topic of TOG (Please turn sensitivity radar down )...I don't buy a watch based on resale but I often hear about DJ having one of the poorest resale value, does TOG with a different numbered bezel and coloured sec hand to the DJ fall into the reign of DJ in terms of poor resale value?

Mtrunner thanks for the info. Do u know when this will happen and also which tourneaou I persume the Time Machine. This also may be a dumb question but will it be possible to get any discounts there being that unlike a store there are no markups. And do Boutigues genrally discount or not. Thanks

It is near their Madison Ave. location and it is now open! I did not realize it was open yet but Sam mentioned above that is is already completed. I doubt you will get a discount at the boutique especially considering it is run by Tourneau and the NYC Tourneau is known for rarely discounting unless you are a frequent customer.

I like it. Thanks for posting the pictures.

... 30 years from now the guys over at VRF will argue about this model, whether it is genuine Rolex or not ... just like the all red 24h hand on the GMT 1675...

Best,

A

It's going to be a tough choice.

black looks beautiful and I'll probably go with white as that makes the green stands out more

I´m not sure its real, Rolex never made a limited edition.
The watch is probably genuine Rolex with some privat custom made parts, like ProjectX design etc

Gary you are right there is no discount to be had at the Tourneau boutique even for the long time customer. I am still drooling over this TOG-Black Dial of course!

I have the slate dial so if I could get my hands on this limited edition I would definitely go with the white dial. The green really pops on the white dial!

It wouldn't be the first time Rolex have released a special model just for Japan. The Space-Dweller springs to mind

Yup, that green sweeping hand is awesome to look at! Fantastic on that white dial. My first automatic Rolex was the TT TOG with gold tapestry dial, and when I bought it in 1991 they sold it to me as a Thunderbird. The gold tapestry became boring after a year so I bought an OEM white dial with romans and it has stayed on the watch since.

Only one I can think of, and that was 50 years ago. I have not heard of a limited edition in "modern" times
