I am new to the watch world but I think I might have started with a great watch. My grandfather gave me his 1972 Red Sub as a graduation present from law school today!!! I am very excited about it but I don't know the slightest thing about this watch. Like were should I have it serviced (hasn't been in over 15 years and needs it) or where I could get the crystal replaced (big scratch/ding on the edge that needs to be addressed). Just trying to get a feel for this piece that just graced my world with its presence...

Congrats that is a real nice vintage piece.
I would take it to some watchmaker who knows what they are doing and will preserve the antiquity of the watch including the dial and hands.

That is great, I was reading about him and it turns out he lives here in my hometown. I wouldn't be surprised if he's worked on this watch before. Guess I will find out soon enough.

Wow, beautiful. Matching patina all the way around, even on bezel pearl. Love the fat font on the insert. Just stunning! Also, cool bracelet, although my guess is that it's super stretched. You can have that restored, too. Congrats, and good luck!
