I think it's a great watch (i'm 18) and a manual wind oyster is my first rolex. I love the way it looks and feels. the price seems to be pretty good with some wiggle room. I had to buy my first one and I would kind of reccomend you atleast make him pay for part of it, Trust me he will have alot more respect for it if he does. and later on you can get him an oyster bracelet for it( i love mine it's extremely comfy and who dosn't love the crown on their clasp??) a bracelet will set you back roughly $400 for a decent one or you can buy a used one for a hundred to two hundred and get it restored. lots of options for this and it's an entry level rolex that will either kick his rolex bug or get him started saving for a submariner or another Iconic model.

I'd keep looking...buy from a trusted seller vs. an individual who can't say it's "running fine" in his listing. It looks clean enough but no mention of accuracy.
Note it is "as is" which doesn't make one certain that it keeps time accurately. If you live close by then perhaps meeting at a watchmaker would ease that doubt.

Excellent example. Nice case. Beautiful dial and hands. Perfect size. If you can get it for between $500 and $600 - that will be an awesome watch. Very simple manual movement. even if you need to service it, it's not expensive, just go to a local watchmaker, but the watch probably runs perfect anyhow.
