Would like some input on this 5701 Air-King-Date
Hey there! New here on the forums. I inherited this watch from my family and have done as much research as I could but could only find out so much. There are a few little things that I've noticed about it and just wanted to ask a few questions about it, to get to know it better :) Please disregard the cracked crystal, I dropped it on the kitchen tile and will be getting it replaced soon...
![]() 1st we'll start with some info that I DO know! Ref: 5701 Serial: 513441 It's an Air-King-Date 5701 (apparently pretty uncommon), it's two-tone and I know it had been taken apart about 3 years ago and a full cleaning and maintenance was done. Does not have the original bracelet And currently has a 20mm leather bracelet on it. As far as it goes, that's pretty much all I know about it. Now the things that mechanically are driving me nuts about this watch are these two things: - Runs about 1 minute fast every day (by the end of the week it's almost 10 minutes ahead) - The date changes at 11pm instead of 12am ![]() I'd like to know the following: a) Is it easy to slow the watch down EVER so slightly (it's running fast) b) Why is it changing date at 11pm, is this easy to fix? c) What type of bracelet would this have had originally? Where could I find one? d) Approximately when was this manufactured? (Hard to tell from Rolex using the same serials twice) Any explanation as to why the 2nd problem is happening would be greatly appreciated :) Here are some pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not sure what motion it has, but I've included a video :) Here you can see the motion of the hands as well as the date changing at 11pm :( VIDEO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDdaWf1NFAY TL;DR: a) Is it easy to slow the watch down EVER so slightly (it's running fast) b) Why is it changing date at 11pm, is this easy to fix? c) What type of bracelet would this have had originally? Not much to say..
It's a redone dial but seems to be nicely maintained.. If it's a minute fast, whoever serviced it didn't do a very good job. If it still has the Rolex movement in it it should be within 5 seconds a day.. If the date changes an hour off, the hands were put back on slightly off at some point in time.. It's nor a big deal unless it bothers you It probably came on leather originally as it's a two tone dress watch and usually that was the preferred look back then. If the hands and dial are original it's likely late 50's. Take off the caseback and you should see a stamp for the year made inside..

The dial is definitely a repaint. The 5701 is a less-common model than most but the redone dial will hurt it. If you dropped it, the watch is a minute off and the date changes an hour early, it's time for a service.
