So, that's what one of the "defect dials" looks like. Interesting, but - collectible or not - not for me.

The 4130 has a longer power reserve and the blue hairspring. It's the "up to date model". Not sure which is considered "better" but I prefer the 4130. You can't go wrong with either.

That was a great write-up, Larry. Thanks for the info!

One question though: you said the daytona is still pressure proof regardless of whether the pusher screwlocks are tight or not. What if the screwlocks are completely unwound? Is it still waterproof?

Thanks for an awesome review, Larry. I could never understand the hype around the Rolex Daytona. Now I can't wait for my TT 116523 white face to be delivered next week.
I guess that's what you call "growing up" in watch terms !

Hey guys
In your opinion, what is the real size of the Daytona? For me the actual size of it is 38mm because winding crown and chrono buttons shouldn't be included. If you pick a Sub 40mm for example you can see the difference of the size right away!
Now if you include the curvature of the case and are not just measuring the edges of the bezel, you get 40mm. But IMHO, even this curvature shouldn't be included. Otherwise a Sub would have 42mm, not 40mm instead.
What do you think?
Cheers

Here are a few pics---maybe you and the other members can tell me what I've got. Again, been told floating cosmog., porcelain dial (raised numbers shows this?) inverted 6, and R serial series. I've had this watch for 20 years, didn't know all the intricacies of it when I got it, just liked the looks. You all know more than I ever will about these fine timepieces.

Thank you

I would say it's 39mm cuz that's what my micrometer says when I measure from the left to the right, not including the crown...

That's what I found too... it is actually slightly larger than my Submariner.

Good Evening (or whatever),

I need some help figuring something out. I have a Rolex Oyster Cosmograph in SS, model 6525, which I bought new in 1973 (screw down buttons were important to me then). It is all stainless including the bezel except for the three black dials. My question: I assume it is a Daytona even though that word doesn't appear on the dial the way it does on what seems to be most other models--why not and what does that mean?

Thanks,
Mike in San Antonio

Hey guys, first post. What is the criteria for the 120g version listed in the original post? I have a 1997 stainless daytona 116520 U-series and it feels light. Bought it secondhand and had the rolex shop in SF validate it, just a little paranoid I guess.

ok, still getting used to the acronyms. that's a white gold w/ leather strap I assume.

still, the 1997 daytona I have is so LIGHT.

can one of you gents with a 1997 stainless daytona tell me what yours weighs?
