Had the opportunity to stop by the Rolex event tonight at my local AD.

A few thoughts:
- Was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the 39mm OP. Tried on the blue, grape, and charcoal dial. Would make a great casual/daily watch, IMO
- Love the change to 40mm with the Day Date. The proportions just felt "right" in comparison to the 41mm.
- Really, really like the new Yachtmaster. It felt like it wore "smaller" than 40mm. I think due to the black bezel and black oysterflex. Really liked the "wings" (as the Regional Rolex manager called them) on the underside of the oysterflex band. Asked him about the magnifier and he remained confident it was going to remain the same as on the prototype at the event tonight.

Pics added. I apologize in advance for the quality. The over head lighting didn't help. Kinda wish I took more pics, but I didn't want to be a heel while others were waiting to look at pieces.

I believe the 40mm DDs I tried on were around $35K.

The OP's were 5700
The 40mm YM was @ 25K

The strap was loose on me when I tried it on, but still comfortable. Apparently there will be 3 different length straps available, and each can be adjusted slightly as well.

The only thing I didn't like too much about the strap is that it tapers and gets narrow towards the clasp just like the oyster bracelets do. I would expect rubber straps to have that same heft and thickness throughout.
But then again, maybe Rolex designed it this way for comfort.

The new YM is just awful in every way IMO...I have no idea where Rolex was going with that design choice. You would think a bracelet would be an option.

I think it's a home run. Lots of nice details including the beautiful matte dial. Who knows maybe a bracelet is in the works for next year.

~~~~agreed, nice alternative to the Rolex sport/tool line (Sub, etc.) for someone just wanting a basic luxury watch to show time in a clear fashion. Others may have better and different ideas

Thanks for taking the pics. The YM II has been a pretty polarizing watch on here over time. This new one seems to have upped the ante. "Awful in every way," and a "Home run," two posts apart. Interesting to see how it will take in the long run.
