Great write up thank you for your work. How do you reset the patina by the way? Like what are you soaking it in to get rid of the patina?

!!!attention!!!
The lug width of the BBBs is 23mm! My apologies for this major screwup I will try to get a Mod to change this asap!
~~~ "2. The supplied fabric strap is indeed 22mm and fits perfectly. However... it's very soft and will compress in certain positions (blame gravity) so some of the photographs may mislead you into thinking it's not the correct width... but rest assured, it is!" ... Tudor has also graciously provided a handsome leather strap, also sporting matching bronze HW. While the HW on the leather strap may appear different than the fabric strap's (which currently matches the case's patina perfectly), I haven't used it and it's been properly stored. Thus no oxidation is evident but I am optimistic that it's the very same CuAl alloy. Size-wise, we're looking at 70x130 (22mm, non-tapered).
I wouldn't be suprised if by reason of the great enthusiasm and demand for this watch, Tudor does not decide to make it a main stream watch in their range for Basel 2018.
! Important message from the op !
Quote:
I LOVE this watch but at the end of the day, the issue is a serious oversight by Tudor's R&D and yeah, extremely disappointing. I do have to (again) thank the OP for bringing it to our attention and I will not be subjecting mine to salt water. I do love salt water (namely the Atlantic ocean, Caribbean, ... ) and it really bothers me that I won't be able to wear my 5B the next time I'm out there... Note to self: NEVER let go of my SD...
I keep coming back to look at the pictures of this watch. I wish these were more readily available, as I love the bronze but am simply not a red/maroon person.
Wear it i good health!
i really really really like the BB bronze
i recently bought a 2017 BB and love it. For the price the bronze is excellent. Might be my next one. Hope the alu bezel + bronze case doesn't give me issues. |
Fellow 5b owner
Hey Traveller I am so glad I stumbled on your review, what an absolute delight! Especially the photos! I just signed up on this forum because of you.
Now why do I say this? I was fortunate enough to acquire a 5B myself just two days ago! So hello, fellow 5B owner :). Now I told myself I want to document the patina development for my own enjoyment with a picture each day, which I then can string together (maybe a timelapse movie or so) and see how the Patina has developed over, say, 3 weeks or a month or so. Unfortunately, I am photographically inept and I was wondering if you could let me know how you managed those gorgeous pics. Do you have a professional lighting setup? Also, have you taken your 5B to the water yet with the strap? I find it a bit unfortunate, that they deliver a diver on a leather or fabric strap, both of which are unsuited for water use. Any Information of how the fabric strap handels submersion in water? Unfortunately, I am at awork and thus limited in time lurking online. I will take the time to read the whole thread later and maybe post a few impressions and pics of my own 5B. Cheers. |
If you're going to take photos on a regular basis then it's best to resort to your smartphone and (most) smartphones can take a decent photo assuming you feed it enough light My suggestion is that you find a window with plenty of sunlight - one that you have access to on a regular basis (home / office) and that's about it. If possible, the window will be "adjacent to" a white wall to present a neutral background. Last but not least, a simple ceiling will help to avoid unwanted reflections. If you're in a office room, make sure those ugly florescent ceiling lighting systems are off!!! That's all I got I haven't taken into the water yet. I wouldn't think twice about using it in fresh water (river, lake, etc) but I would be weary about that strap in pools (chlorine) and even worse, salt water. Although a swim in the ocean followed by a relatively immediate rinse in fresh water should work, there's a thread here regarding "Galvanic corrosion" (I posted something about that somewhere above). It has to do with the fact that Bronze+Aluminum+Salt make for a bad combination... But I don't want to get into a debate in this thread... please Google if you are curious. So once again, welcome to the club - happy to have you join us here at TRF
