Winding your watch
Is it possible go over wind your watch manually. For instance although my watch watch was not "dead," I had not wound it at all in the 3 weeks I have owned it, and yesterday I wound it about 20 times, is this okay? How many times should you wind it if it stops? Thanks!

You can wind and wind and wind and it wont damage the watch. 30-40 full rotations will provide a full wind.

The mainspring on Rolex and almost all other automatic watches is not attached to the barrel but rides on indents inside it. When fully wound, the mainspring will slip inside the barrel. The diagram below depicts a Rolex mainspring and barrel, others are similar.

My AD instructed me to manually wind my 16610 once a month to keep a full reserve. I've been wearing it everyday, all day, so I'm not sure it needs it. However, today is the 1st and I wound my watch. I plan to do this at the first of each month.

Winding Ladies DateJust
My wife just obtained a previously owned Ladies DateJust. According to the previous owner it had just been serviced; however, it does not wind with the crown. It winds just fine on her arm. (My DJ winds at the first position after the crown is unscrewed.)
So, the question is, do the ladies DJ's wind manually with the crown and, if so, what if that doesn't happen? Time for Rolex to look at it? Thank you. Larry Silvey |

I wind until I feel the click when it is fully wound and the clutch disengages.
