vintage style "beads of rice" bracelet for Tag Heuer Carrera re-edition
this project was a long time coming... ever since I moved down to Atlanta several years ago, I've been transitioning all my watches off leather bands back to bracelets due to the oppressive humidity, but my Tag Heuer Carrera never came with one. I knew the original Carrera's from the 60's had these fantastic "beads of rice" bracelets (henceforth will be referred to as 'BoR') made by Guy Freres...but one problem... they were insanely rare thus insanely expensive (seen one on eBay go for over $1000!?!). I checked out a few 60's-70's NOS aftermarket BoR they sell on various sites but they were very flimsy due to folded links and poor fit, and overpriced in my opinion (avg around $150). I temporarily gave up on the period style BoR and tried to fit an original 80's Heuer "president" style bracelet (with the perfect clasp with "HEUER" logo!!!) to my Carrera, but that left me with the problem of making the end links. I tried to go the 3D printing route but it seemed like the industry rate to simply scan my watch was at least $500!?! After all the previously mentioned dead ends, I came across a series of fantastic aftermarket bracelets produced by Harold Ng (goes by "yobokies" online) for various Seiko divers, including a beautiful solid link (!!!!) BoR style bracelet. Of course none of his existing products would fit a midsize Carrera so I took a gamble and emailed him to see if he was willing to do a custom job for me... he said YES and nearly a year later, here's the results (see attached pics)
