golden ellipse - any owners?
Any owners or screenshots of the golden ellipse? Is this one hard to source from dealers? Im thinking of doing this instead of calatrava.

Hi Sambb,
I bought one early October. It was a longtime wish for me. I could not be happier with the watch, a 3738 Golden Ellipse in pristine condition. Actually this past Friday was the first day I wore another watch. The Ellipse brings so much pleasure. In real life it is even more beautiful than on pictures. I don’t know how to attach older pics so here is the link to my thread with pics: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=767757 |

My grandfather wore one every day. My brother now wears a yellow gold as his only watch.
Amazing and underrated beauties. One day I'll probably pick one up myself... |

is it possible to get a tiffany dialed one? I assume this is not a popular watch, and i buy a lot from that brand. FYI, ADs are offering 20-25% off.

Ha! Mine originally had a Tiffany dial. When I sent it to PP , I had them replace dial w no Tiffany stamp. I didn’t like the clutter. James in San Antonio Tx

I think the ellipse is the only watch this size that doesn’t look small on me. There’s something about it that can fool you. Do any of y’all know of a good place to get straps for them?

for purely a dress watch - would you do this, calatrava, or lange? (2 or 3 hand)

Thank you! I’m going to check them out, I’d love to get a brown or possibly blue strap for it.

I’d honestly stick to a 2-hand model for purely dress. My choice would definitely be Patek. Although the Calatrava is more classic looking, in my opinion the Ellipse is a more uncommon choice that stands out precisely because it’s understated. It’s a watch that you wear for yourself and truly a piece that you have to behold in person to appreciate. I wouldn’t make a decision before trying it on.

If this is any help, here’s mine next to my 36mm turnograph which seems like a reasonable comparison.

Very much so, although the current models are a bit larger and are offered in gold with black dial and platinum with blue dial. The blue is a special process patek uses which is very interesting. The dial is made of gold and the blue is achieved through a chemical process. There was also al limited 50 anniversary model as well, I believe in 2018 if I’m not mistaken.

Yes, im not sure how to view this timepieice. Does it look dated or classic. There is a subtlety to that difference and im not sure how to think about it. Maybe the larger size is a more modern take.

Doesn't look dated to me and I think it looks better in the smaller size of the 3738 etc. Also sensing that the Ellipse is becoming slightly more popular again, both on here and among my friends.
