Since you open up by saying you love F1 cars since you were a kid I would say the yellow gold Daytona OF is the clear winner. You have a SS Batgirl for the more casual occasions. The DD is great but u find it more on the dressy side. For a 50th birthday you need yellow gold. I got my buddy the ghost and it’s a great watch. It’s just doesn’t pop like the yellow gold. Happy early birthday. Hope this pic helps.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I agree with you with 50 and gold. I initially liked the ghost but I want something with some more pop and wow factor.

The WG is sure to be nice, but to go along the BLNR, the YG will have a different vibe.

I'll add another vote for a Daytona... My favorite PM Rolex... They also look amazing on an aftermarket leather strap!

Although they are all sports watches, the daytona will always look more sporty than a YG day date. So the 1st consideration should be your lifestyle... do you dress casual most of the time? Or more business or business casual?

Given that its a 50th birthday gift, it would be a shame to only wear it once in a while. I would get the one that matches your lifestyle more... more dressy = daydate; more sporty = daytona.

Regarding those specific configurations for the daytona: I dont like that champagne dial on the daytona so between those 2 I would get the silver dial on white gold. 100% on oysterflex because of the ceramic bezel.

Regarding the daydate, the size is the only difference. You should try them on and see which size suits you best.

Another vote for the DD, either 36 or 40, depending on your preference/wrist size.

Question for DayDate owners then: would a DD not be too much work to reset when you havent worn it for a week or so?

No way. Plus it's nice to interact with your watch and set it up.

I’m having this exact same decision for my 70th birthday in 2026.
YG Green Ombre DD40
YG Daytona on OF with black subdials

My lifestyle is much more casual than formal so edging towards the Daytona but that DD40 is beautiful.

Alternatively you can get a watch winder. Very useful thing!

Since you have and have mostly had sports models, go DD for sure.

Personally, the 36mm DD green ombré is my favorite.

Whatever is your grail watch, that’s the one.
Since I just turned 70, I’ve had several milestone moments.
My first, I didn’t pick…….1984. For my 30th I was given an 18kt YG Day-Date Bark Finish.
I picked my 50th in 2004…..the 16610 LV flat 4.
I’m still waiting on my 70th; always wanted platinum DD white dial. Love a fluted bezel too.
Hope I’m still alive when it arrives.

Go for the YG Champagne Dial Daytona on OF. It is the best looking watch in the catalog at the moment. I would argue that the YG Green Roman 36 is right up there but not as versatile as the OF.

Wow, you chose very wisely at 50. Well done.

For what it’s worth, I wear this the most of all of my watches. It’s a jack of all trades. Looks great dressed up, dressed down. Not to flashy but just enough.

My wife says the green DD is beautiful but she prefers the Daytona. She said the DD looks too flashy where the Daytona has a more understated elegance to it.

Plus the easy link is just the best. I can get a perfect fit. I don’t have to worry about the bracelet getting scratched up or dinged. My favorite Daytona is the 6263. I’ll never own one but this is a modern version of that one imo.

The DD40 would probably be my choice, however, while it feels more 'special?' on the wrist, the WG OF Daytona is more versatile as to wearability in all kinds of situations.

So...it boils down to which of these characteristics fit your niche, lifestyle- and vibe. Good luck and happy birthday in advance.

For a 50th milestone, I'd go with the DD. You've done the sports watches, now time for a classic PM.

Only you can decide if that needs to be a 36 or 40.

You are absolutely right with the WG OF tone more versatile. Yesterday I was lucky enough to try a YG champagne dial on OF at my AD. Don't get me wrong, it is a stunning watch and understand the hype around it, but it is not for me. I still need to try on the WG version but the YG is not for me in the sense of what I want to do with the watch. I want to wear it in rotation with my BLNR and not have it like a very special piece that stands out too much. Maybe if I had 5 pieces the YG would make sense but not in a two watch collection.

I could see myself adding the YG DD in 3 years when I retire.

Absolutely agree with you after trying the YG.

Can't thank enough people for sharing feedback and inputs on this.
