I am in the camp that prefers the 5167 to the 5711. Never compromise just to have a brand in your collection. It will be an expensive mistake. Save for the nautilus. Keep an SS rolex though.

I think the Aquanaut is a fine watch, especially with the SS bracelet. I like it better than the Nautilus.

However, I wouldn't dump a Rolex to get one.

Just keep saving until you can pay cash for which ever one you want.

If you think Patek is everything for you then go for it but pick Nautilius .That watch has more presence

Trade what I takes to get the 5711. But, I find that you'll also need a ceramic bezel "beater" for more rugged use.

I went through a Patek phase. Owned six of them including both models you are considering. I found I didn't wear them as much as rolex given an active lifestyle so traded them to expand the rolex collection.

Although I recognize Patek as one of the greatest Swiss watchmakers there is, their "sport" models do nothing for me. Every time I see one the first though that crosses my mind is that it looks like something you would find in the jewelry case at Walmart next to the Armitron and Timex watches. I know I will be in the vast minority on this, but for some reason I cannot get past the rounded square case and the weird looking bracelet.

Their complications are quite impressive to me though, but the prohibitive price tag ruins it. I guess Patek Philippe just isn't for me. If I were in your shoes, I would keep the Rolexes. You have a very solid collection.

Haha.....I know they will never actually be there, but the design just reminds me of them. Like I said, I know they are fine timepieces and I recognize them as such, but the aesthetics do nothing for me.

Three bits of advice:

1. Don't compromise. Get the watch you want, even if it hurts a little, or just wait until it doesn't hurt.
2. Don't flip your Rolexes. You will regret it down the line, and I suspect you'll re-aquire at least one of the ones you sell, and you'll pay more than you did the first time. You may tire of them for a while, but you'll come back to them. Trust me.
3. Think about an AP 15300 (will have to be pre-owned), 15400, or 15202, not as a compromise, but as an alternative. They are, IMHO, as nice or nicer, and a bit less expensive.

Good luck!

Ya know, I look at Patek, I was at a dealer yesterday looking and I just don't care for those versions and I wouldn't part with any of your Rolex to get it.... that said I choose not to buy the only Patek watch I really admire and want. The 5396G-011 its $50k.

Agreed, on a watch that expensive, save for what you want. I am not a fan of the PP sports line, but I love their dress watches, and have started a hunt for a vintage one, probably at 1450 (Top Hat) or 1533. I love the vintage Deco look. I know they would just be a special occasion watch, however.

The 5711 is one of the finest watches ever created in my opinion. As is the AP 15400. So, go for the Nautilus over any Rolex

Agreed on all three counts, and done all three...

You will miss your Rolex's. Flipping your current collection for a steel 3 hand watch is just very painful to think about, even if it's a Patek. I've been thinking the same but just couldn't do it.

Agree with both of these.

Although flipping can be good. I consolidated for my Daytona and i love it.
