Agreed that it's a Sub for me! And then add a GMT on jubilee for more versatility because to me the jubilee seems dressier.

For any day and for any occasion, a two-tone DJ is always a superb choice.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the Explorer I (and Explorer II is the one I dislike the most). I saw one at the AD when I was testing the YM40 and the DJ36/41 but I didn't feel any emotions when seeing it.

I'll go back to this AD and have a look at the DJ but with a smooth bezel this time. Last time I was focus on the fluted one but it's way too dressy.
And try a Sub. My opinion on it may change when it's on my wrist.

I'll keep you updated when my decision is made!

The Explorer is a great everyday watch. Of the several watches I own, surprisingly, it's the Explorer that I enjoy wearing the most and can't see myself ever parting with.

If it doesn't interest you then my second pick would be a GMT, it's nice to have a date window and I like to set the 24hr hand to Edinburgh time while I live in the states. Though I never use the rotating bezel for it's intended purpose, I still like having it to time the odd event. 100M water resistance is fine for anything I do. The only downside that I ever experience with the GMT is that it's definitely more widely known and in that regard makes me somewhat fearful to wear it in cities like New York or Paris.

If I only have one watch, then it would be a pre ceramic Daytona.
Otherwise, it would Seadweller 43

For a versatile Rolex that can handle everyday wear from work to the beach to formal events, consider the Datejust 36/41, Air-King, or Yacht-Master 40.

I feel like any of the steel models work well in multiple environments.

Try as many variants as you can. Opinions are a valuable source of information but ultimately you should be going with something you relate to the best. As has been offered in other posts, I would personally stick to stainless steel (maybe WG) as a daily and one watch only. But everyone will have different views. Enjoy the hunt.

Agreed. That was one watch for 15 years. Some Rolexes might be too flashy for a daily or too polished to take the daily wear and tear, but the Explorer II is definitely the low-key Rolex with a useful GMT function.

Whatever you choose….when you do select one as your daily beater, please do not start a new thread complaining of scratches on your bracelet

OP, DJ, Explorer I-36 would be my top 3 with a Sub as honorable mention.

I'm a high school PE teacher; I'm in charge of the Physical Education department and we just came back from a 3 day camping trip with our Gr 12's. One of our IB Physics teacher was on the trip and he's chopping wood in a plaid shirt and a caught a glimpse of something on his wrist with a bunch of beads. it was an Air King. Coolest fucker on that trip.

I find it exceptionally mundane, and when considering a one watch daily It would be nice to have a couple extra's like the timing bezel and the increased robustness from its water resistance/diving heritage.

I absolutely do recognize that many people love this watch though, which again highlights how personal and subjective our hobby is. It's not a matter of "getting it" as you say condescendingly, the fact is that nobody can be 100% correct on which one is the best for a specific purpose as we all enjoy different things. Cheers

Best everyday Rolex ?

Depending on your lifestyle, any of these could fill that role.

What would you suggest as the best Rolex to do so ?

I already checked some of them (DJ36/41, AK and YM40) but it's quite a hard choice!
I insist that I only want (and can...) buy only one :)

Thanks!
IMHO
An all-occasion Rolex would be the Oyster Perpetual in a silver dial (or color of your choice).

I certainly agree with others that it could be an Explorer - but the OP is better look with a suit.

Also, don't avoid the idea of a vintage model.

LASTLY...I can't tell you how many times es we've heard this refrain,
"I insist that I only want (and can...) buy only one"

Ummm yeah

I would have said the Explorer 1 but based on your later responses I’d say go with the DJ.

With that said, any Rolex (or any brand for that matter) can be a one and done….buy what you like best and fits your wrist/lifestyle the best.

It’s a no date sub for me! The ceramic bezel and brushed centre links stand up to daily wear really well.
