6263 relume

Hi, heard of a late 6263 for sale with 2002 and 2014 RSC services, with papers.

The seller says the dial and hands was relumed in the 2002 service.

Got now the pics, white hour markers on the original dial. The lume picture makes me wonder, looks more like blue Chromalight, did Rolex Service in 2002 relume the original dial with super luminova or what happened here?

Can see a service bezel and pushers as well there.

Thanks for the advice and any comments. Service parts affect the originality and price a lot, but full original 6263s are priced mostly at six digits...

I do not believe that the RSC generally re-lumes dials and hands, usually they replace parts with service parts. Please post photos of the service papers.

I agree Dan.
If owner wanted functional lume during a 2002 overhaul, a SWISS service dial would have been installed.

Big picture:
A relume certainly affects the dial’s value if chromalight or even luminova.
Before seriously considering the watch, you should check a few other important things.
What are the first 2 or 3 numbers in the serial.
If it’s an ‘80’s serial the pushers would be correct.
Get clear photos of the hopefully good movement and verify the case serial # match the movement date range.
Check the bracelet, end links, and clasp stamps/codes.
A 6263 with all Rolex service parts could easily be worn daily without much concern, but would you really be satisfied long term?
Excluding any movement/case/crown concerns, to replace with original dial/bezel/hands/crystal is easily in the 25-30k range nowadays with nice dial/bezel being the most costly and hardest to find.
Basically, the watch would have to be around half the price of an all original parts 6263 to even think about it IMO.
Good luck…

I'd not bother personally - apart from the weird lume the subdials are very dirty with one of them having what looks like hand-scuff. Something about insert not delighting me either.

At £50-80k you can be picky.

That 6263 has been on C24 for a LONG time.

Found it, service bracelet on the watch too and an aggressive asking price for what it is…

The over polish (chamfer attempt) on the lugs look like lyre lugs from an Omega Speedy. I wouldn't touch that thing with a 10' pole.

?? I think what you are seeing as a “chamfer attempt” is just the sticker overlapping the case. I don’t see any chamfers. The case looks fine to me.

I'm not certain whether Rolex was doing dial and hand relumes during 2002, but they were reluming at one time.

Rolex Service Centers were known to have relumed dials and hands as evidence in the service document in my thread linked below. I'm not sure if they do it now, but they were doing reluming at least through the 1980s and possibly later.

6263 relume

For the benefit of a question John I hope bringing forward your image is OK:

Did you mean the checkbox of "refinish dial and hands"?

Or the other checkbox "luminous dial and hands"?
