Depends on what part of the world you live in Asia the 36mm watches like the DJ is still the most popular watch .And afraid only Rolex would know the sales ratio for any watch they manufacturer, but the DJ range is still the biggest sellers world wide

I mean is the Datejust 41 vs Datejust 36 or Dd 40 vs dd 36

Smaller watches are starting to trend hard in the world of fashion and celebrities, for sure. For example Cartier has seen a huge uprising in the last 2-3yrs, specifically their smaller dress watches paired with more casual outfits. Omega are also beginning to push their smaller, dressier sports watches very hard too, with the likes of actor Barry Keoghan wearing smaller, gemset pieces.

However, to me, there's kind of a forced narrative here because I still feel that most men, in real life, feel like they cannot pull off a small watch. I know I can't. I can just about feel comfortable in a 36mm watch with my 7.5in wrist.
Additionally, women are now very much leaning towards larger (36mm>), more masculine watches, there just seems like a disconnect to me.

Is the 40/41mm trend going strong? I'd say for 95% of people in everyday wear, yes. But dressier pieces, on the whole, I think are starting to become more popular on the smaller side.

Unfortunately, there is no detailed sales data for the Datejust and DayDate available to us. Anecdotally, it seems like the 36 and 40/41 get an equal amount of love on TRF. I would never conclude the 36 is less or more popular. But you could always post a poll.

The 36 Exp 1 gets a lot of love, but the 39mm always got a lot of love, too. The new 40mm Exp 1 just came out and is too new to draw any conclusions.

Anything around the 40mm in size is about perfect but as mentioned that changes depending where you are in the world

From what I've seen, the trend towards 40/41mm watches has been pretty strong lately. A lot of brands are leaning into larger sizes, and it seems like that's what many people are gravitating towards. As for the sales numbers compared to the 36mm models like the Explorer 1, Datejust, and Daydate, I'm not sure about the exact ratios, but I'd guess the bigger sizes are gaining ground.

All depends. I prefer 40/41 over 36. 40-44 is my sweet spot.

I think around 40 mm is about perfect for me. I think that fashion might be trending a bit toward more classic sizes for mechanical watches.

Of course, there’s Apple Watches, Garmins, and G Shocks etc., that are larger in size, but I don’t see them in the same way as I do a mechanical timepiece if that makes sense

Depending type of watch for me between 36mm and 45mm could be okay.

All the info is going to be anecodtal. I've been following this trend of smaller watches on celebrity men recently. While it has made me miss my 36mm 18348 a little bit, I'm pretty happy with my 218238 (41mm) and my Ballon Bleu 2999 (42 mm). I've owned both - and it's definitely a matter of personal presence, but being 6'3' 195 with 7.25" wrist, I like larger, to a point. Also, the older I get ... the easier they are to see.

As mentioned I can imagine all across East Asia 36mm is their best seller ..
USA 45-50mm due to the effect on the wrist from Popeyes and Mac`Donald’s ..

I think that 39-41 wears the best. Except for the DayDate. The 36 seems to be just right for that one.
