Solid gold Rolex vs SS VC overseas.

I pay grey prices I have no AD relationships tried my best not happened, anyhow with those prices in respect - I love gold Rolexes and already have a few. I have always loved loved loved the VC overseas especially blue, whether it be the chronograph of the dual time.

I’m at that point where I want to buy a new watch. Although I own quite a lot of Rolexes - I can’t help but feel a solid gold Rolex is a lot more bang for your buck than steel blue dial VC overseas.

Thoughts?

The blue VC overseas is amazing. The stock photos that VC use don’t represent the dial color at All. It’s much better looking than that

I guess I’m the odd one out. I wouldn’t take any VC for any Rolex. In fact I wouldn’t own VC full stop.

Strictly looking at secondary market pricing I would agree that gold rolexes are a great value compared to SS in any other brand. Go for the gold Rolex!

If you already have plenty of rolex, there is only one choice for me...

Assuming you mean yellow/rose gold as opposed to white it's also a question of how ostentatious you like to be. If you want gold, only gold will do. But an overseas is a very high quality piece that stands up against a gold rolex IMHO

If you are going secondary market, then I would take the PM Rolex. If you are going AD? I think I would get the VC.

On the secondary, I'd also take the PM Rolex.

That looks nice. Is the SS blue different or the same? I think the SS blue looks too "purple" in a lot of light and a real deal killer.

I'm a bit of a Vacheron fan but think that they are overpriced/inferior if you were to compare with PP & AP both in a horogical sense & market value

I mean I already own a pt Daytona, WG meteorite dd, WG gmt meteorite, yellow gold sub, black gold sub, YG dd.

So yeah quite a few not even sure what I would exactly at this point wouldn’t mind the green gmt master.

Other that in a horological sense does your VC really feel as special to you?

I’ve owned both and the simple truth is that I find VC to just be a whole other level of quality. In fact, VC ownership has kind of spoiled Rolex for me. This is sort of like asking whether to buy a fully loaded Lexus sedan with all the options or a Ferrari. I loaded Lexus is nice and surely quite practical. But a Ferrari is a whole different thing. VC all the way.

Depends on what you are interested in. Are you interested in being noticed, the value of the precious metal (roughly $5000 on a Rolex), the ability to resell quickly, or owning a piece manufactured at or near the pinnacle of the art of watchmaking. Personally I would chose the VC.

I have not compared them side-by-side but based on my handling impression, they look the same shade of blue to me.

Any reason for the absolute in this case?

Curious because I'm trying to source the exact rose gold blue dial VC in the picture on this thread.

Bad experience, or just doesn't fit the eye for you?

Rolex. As much as I like Genta design. The VC has a design language that just doesn’t fit my taste.

I noted you have a few PM Rolex, and if you really want a PM VCO, maybe can consider letting one go? The pink gold VCO is hard to get from both Boutique and grey dealers as there are not many of them. I have spotted quite a few instances of 5711 and 15202 gold "in the wild" but never the VCO gold. I think there is a certain exclusivity on this watch. Anyway, good luck to your decision

I went with the 5500v Blue Face, just placed the deposit last week and hoping to have the watch within 6 months. I purchased from the VC Boutique in Manhattan (in the US blue face overseas are boutique only). Overall the experience and communication from being placed on the waitlist to now have been great, I was never asked to buy something else or play other games like at the Rolex AD.

I think this might be the route to go down, but move on some steel pieces. To the point where I’m spending the same cash. This is the problem with watches one there is one you want you’ll always end up getting it somewhere down the line!

I agree. PP and AP finishing looks better to me. I like my AP 15300 and PP 5712 better so I sold the blue VC Dualtime. I also got bored of the blue dial; too bright for my liking. It is still a really nice watch that I sometimes regret selling.

I’m also getting the pink gold vacheron that is shown in the pics. This will be my first PM watch and first Vacheron. I’m extremely pumped and should have it within 6 months. This video below by watch society really got me excited…..

i really can't get past the bracelet on VCs but besides that i just feel like at grey prices it makes more sense to get rolex PM. i would only pay rolex PM prices for steel APs
