PAM01628 - new 47mm base

Panerai quietly released a new 3-day manual (P.3000) base 47 mm Panerai, the 1628. It has patina steel and grainy dial with black vignette effect to differentiate it from the 372. The sandwich dial is a bit different as well, with the middle plastic layer (providing more depth) having been removed (for some reason). €10,700.

Recently had a 328 in 44mm and my wrist was nonexistent. Can't even imagine a 47mm. It does look incredible though. The grainy dial texture is very captivating

Nice watch. Too expensive at retail. I would choose the 372 in the pre-owned market for 50% less. Thanks for posting.

I hear you about price, but, then again, an Explorer II is only a few hundred cheaper. Watches are just expensive these days, especially ones with iconic pedigree from big brands.

Anyway, for sure, if pre-owned is ok for the buyer, these will be much cheaper second-hand.

It's not a "Base" model. Base models, or more correctly "Base Logo" models(which have the OP logo) are exclusively 44mm, not 47mm, dont have sandwich dials, don't have screw in exhibition case backs, don't have the "Reg TM" indicia thicker crown guard, and don't have historical 1950 pin cushion cases, they have the angular Betterini case.

The 1628 offers an aesthetic enhancement with the tropical effect grey dial over the more historically correct 422 black dial.

For me, "base" Panerais mean PAMs without seconds hands or any complication. In that sense, a 372 is a base Panerai, like a 000 or 112.

Fair enough, but within Panerai "Base" refers exclusively to entry level models.

A 1086 is a Base model, a 914 is not.
