Smooth winding on GMT

Hi RF Fam,

I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced this. So I have multiple watches that seem to wind with a certain amount of resistance but yet its smooth. I recently started noticing my 2018 GMT has more resistance than my DSSD (2019) and my DJ (2018). Now mind you, I did pick up the GMT used from a colleague who wears it daily. Does this mean I should bring my watch to service?

Any insight would be helpful. Cheers!

All my Rolex pieces wind silky smooth. Even an Explorer that hasn’t been fully serviced in over ten years. May need some lubrication. I’d bring it to a certified Rolex watchmaker and have them take a look.

Smooth winding on GMT

For the 2018 GMT, I would observe its timekeeping and get the movement measured with a timegrapher, i.e. rates, amplitudes, and beat errors, for 5 different positions, after full winding. The data will indicate if the caliber has developed an issue.

I find all the 32xx movements wind a bit “gritty” compared to the 31xx’s

Can confirm, my DJ41 feels grittier than my Daytona and past 31xx movements.

It is borderline unpleasant to wind it.

Agreed.

My 114060 winds smooth as butter. By comparison, my 124060 and 126710 are gritty feeling.

Same here. My Air King 3131 is smooth as butter and my 3235 DJ41 is a little "gritty" also.. Maybe due to the Date and the 70 hour reserve on the 3235..

My DD40 also feels a bit gritty.. also there is a click every rotation or so once it's fully wound.

126660 2020 DSSD owner here. Comparatively I found it to be smoother than a 2021 GMT.

And another voice from the chorus - my EXPII with 3187 winds much more smoothly than my former DJ41 with 3235.

I have four 16710’s. Three of them serviced recently by RSC. 2 of those 3 wind silky smooth. One feels a bit gritty. Go figure.
