AD Salesperson Etiquette
Is it just me or does anyone else get annoyed when you take your watch off to try one on and the salesperson, who you don’t have a relationship with, picks your watch up and starts looking at it and handling it?

Yes, that would annoy me. Especially if they didn’t have gloves on were not gentle.

I just ask they not set the time or shake it. I’ve seen some sales reps shake dormant watches like they’re trying to wake a drunk and it annoys me.

Slide your watch off and instead of putting it on the table put it on your other wrist. Shows what you're packing and sends the message that they can look but not touch.
Usually I don't care, only have done this in an AD that was particularly crowded, and didn't want my watch lying around. |

This is why I bring my wife along, haha. I think she gets more annoyed when sales rep tries to touch my watch then I do. Although most don’t bother with my watch.

I don't set mine down, I put it in my pocket.
It's not a reciprocal transaction. My watch is none of his business. I'm not trading it in. No touching on the first date, buster.

Thats a non issue, these aren't precious jewels or something. Shop online if that bothers you. Quite the thread.

Nope, all fine with me. i tend to wear 'em often, plus some pieces I have even stores can't get. So they want to see real 'unobtainium' and not the hundredth SkyD or Daytona :)

They used to take it in back for a quick spin in the ultrasonic, while my wallet took the bath. Now I don’t bother to visit. I don’t know if they still do that.

They should ask first. But If they don’t and it bothers you, just say something to them.

I have no problem with this at all.
I've had staff give my watch good shining with a microfiber cloth, which is a nice gesture, I think. I probably wouldn't shop where I didn't trust staff and if that did happen, I'd just put my watch in my pocket.

Further to my last post, I actually find it odd if they show no interest at all.

No issue, however I would expect them to ask first.

Simply this and anyone who can't understand that very basic gesture of etiquette, to ask before touching someone else's property, is clearly ignorant.

Yes, some of those SA's have very rough hands, from all that 'housework' between the weekly customer meeting.
...plus, counting all that grey cash at the back door, dries the skin terribly. |

I’ve never had this happen. I take mine off and set it on the tray, and pick up the new watch I’m trying on … the AD doesn’t handle my watch.
I guess from reading above this is common, but it wouldn’t bother me. |

Me too!! I’d have felt a better connection with bob or bill or whatever if he took my watch from the counter and complimented it or said something (beyond treating me like a pauper). I’m also the guy that if someone I know well compliments my watch, I will take it off and let them inspect it, they can put it on their wrist, or whatever. Most of those guys have dirty hands and are sweaty or whatever. So OP, YMMV. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

Pretty much every watch I own came from the same SA. He has handled them all before, added links, changed straps, sent out for service etc. After many years I know and trust the AD anyway. Never crossed my mind and I doubt he cares to look at them regardless since he sees them all in the matter of course. I think the only time he touches a watch I take off is to move it out of the way. Not sure why an SA would care to see someone's watch?
