how did you get the 5712A at AD

Hi all
I just wondering how did you get your 5712A at AD, I have spent more than $100,000 at my AD, but seem it’s impossible to get the the 5712A or even Daytona White Dial. I live in Southern California

If you can't get a Daytona after spending over 100k, you dealt with the wrong AD.

For 5712/1A, might need to spend over 200k.

I haven’t spent anything and just received a 5711/1A from London boutique after two and a half years waiting. It is not 5712 as this thread is about, but it still... Of course I was more than happy, but I could not resist to ask why some other people had to wait longer than me, with ref. to O’Leary. The answer was: “It is not always about money. You seemed to be genuine interested in the watch and I (read: the director of the boutique) think you will enjoy wearing it rather than flipping it. That’s why!”.

I really love the clean design of the 5711 on the flesh. However I think that I am going to acquire the 5712 with blue dial in the future, at least I try to. Have already made the request. They said that they had to close the list just three days after launch at Basel earlier this year. But they will see what they can do. Finger crossed.

I am sure this is true at many ADs... relationship / type of customer may trump overall spend. I was on the list for approx 1 year and while I have spent a good amount of $ over the years, I am sure there were more who spent more than me . But I am super local, have a good relationship , know a lot of the SA as well as mgr, have met the owners, and they all know my passion for watches didn’t start w the SS craze we are in the midst of. I realize I may be in the minority, and I do feel fortunate to have a wonderful AD.

I feel like the fact that I want a gold rather than an SS should clearly show I'm not a flipper. Also max I can make on the 5164r that I want is maybe all of $6k-$10k if I sell personally (with no reputation as a seller) or if I go through grey market dealer and fork over the profit share. I generally won't waste more than 5 to 10 hours of my life for $6k-$10k in profit. It just doesn't move the needle for me. This would be a different story if I bought the watch for $40k and could sell it for $140k, but I'm pretty certain that wouldn't happen.

So I can see the skepticism for SS Nautilus and maybe SS Aquanauts. Can't see skepticism for PM Aquanauts. They're not the best flips IMO.

if gold is lighter than steel, maybe i will go gold. gold is heavy and look little bit old for me ( just my opinion) i dont think there is flipper that spend more than 100k to get daytona or 5712 to flip.

After spending 100k if your AD is showing you no love even with a Daytona its time to move on.

Higher of 2 equations...
(Price of desired watch x 10)/2

Or

(2ndary price of desired watch -Msrp)/20% This is the gain on the watch grossed up so that the AD makes the spread

You’re probably right. If OP’s AD is a large AD for Patek and Rolex, there are huge spenders that get preference. So 100k is not enough for the 5712.

You don’t need to spend anything else but time!
Time to go to an AD other than yours and talk to him/her and show them you are a watch lover not a watch flipper.
I buy my 5980 1AR-001 without any history and without spend any cent on that AD.
And now I believe till the end of the year I will post pictures with my new 5726 blue dial.
With my Rolex SkyD blue same story.
I think you need to change your AD and your modality to abord this kind of thing. With Patek AD especially!
