“Rolex’s authorised dealers say they still have long waiting lists for the hottest steel sports models, and the lengthy production shut down will do nothing to ease that situation.”

Meanwhile, people have still been getting calls and the ADs (certainly in the UK) are insistent they’ve still been receiving stock.

That aside it’s great news that Switzerland has recovered enough to begin opening things.

Excellent news, not just for the watch business but as a sign of a rebound of the whole country

Waiting lists and people were written before all this craziness, not sure how people will react now when getting the “incoming” call, how easily will they spend money on such dispensable items.

Will the accumulated demand and seized production of watches bring the prices even higher?

Will the jobless America with a paradoxal stock market and Europe living in a lockdown for month melt down the demand?

Interesting times ahead of us.

Well grey prices have been tumbling even with the shutdown. It would be fairly reasonable to assume they will continue to tumble when there’s an increasing supply.

On the flip side to that, we might see people wanting to indulge having come out of lockdown but I would think the large majority of folk would be reluctant to spend given the financial problems caused by all this.

Great news!

“Analysts estimate that Rolex made just over 1 million watches in 2019, a figure likely to drop to well under 900,000 in 2020.”

Shouldn’t be hard to buy steel sports if people are more hesitant to spend a lot on luxury these days.

I wonder if the US importer (RUSA) in NYC is able to receive shipments from the company and send watches out to ADs with the current situation in the city.

That's great news that watchmakers are beginning to return to work.

However, I still have not seen any reductions in prices on Chrono24, Grey sellers or even on Ebay, Still seeing 16K+ for BLRO, 17K for CHNR and 10K+ for Sub date.

Maybe sellers are hopeful people with buy for FOMO?

I haven’t had any calls just sorry steel models still have big waitlists.

Just speaking out loud. I think when the opportunity comes, not many will turn it down. I'd be safe to assume that the people on the waiting list are already aware of what demanded pieces go for.

So again, in terms of opportunity, they either take it because they want it or they buy it and use the opportunity to make money.

When was the last time you looked? Take a grand off those prices.

Of course. In fact, I was informed by an AD I know that this is the case. No pun intended.

Hopefully they open soon and open up the taps big time, letting those who want the watches get them at RRP, get prices back to normality and suffocate the grubby grey market.

Rolex is slow to respond compared to Patek...they are already open according to an associated story on the same website...

Does anyone know how this affects RSCs and the current wait time on watches that were frozen during the initial shutdown?

Might this be why some of us are hearing from our ADs all of a sudden?

I’d be interested to hear this as well. I want to send my Rolex to the RSC for service.

I don't want the economy to go into complete meltdown and people to suffer but I'd really really like it if I could walk into an AD and buy a Batgirl and walk back out without having to play weird games...

I have been watching some pieces on chrono24 and am getting notices of price cuts to the tune of $1,000 in the past month. I think new listings are going up at pre-pandemic prices, but I would imagine that they are not selling at those prices. I only watch US listings also.
