EXPLORER 2: black vs white dial. Which one? HELP!

Oh, one more thing: is somehow the black dial matte or something? It seemed strange... different than other Rolex black dials I own... seemed it lacks presence and contrast... like not dark enough... or something that has to do with the glass, reflects different maybe...

Anyone else noticed it? Or its just me looking too much at these 2 dials for the past two months?

Many people in this thread have confirmed my own opinion: the black dial wears smaller than the white dial, draws less attention, and is more casual/sporty.
Think about why you want the watch, and see if those reasons align more with one style or the other. If you want a special occasions watch that others notice, go polar. If you want a daily wearer that is more stealthy, go black.

This is something that's not discussed much but you are right. The black dial is a matte dark brown, some people would say it reminds of the tropical dials.

The black dials in the GMTs for example, are more lustrous deep black color.

Yep, the black dial isn’t black, it’s a very dark Matt Brown, almost looks black, but the deep dark brown works perfectly with the orange GMT hand. And of course the ‘black’ dial has the phantom hands, which I really like.
