Is Bulgari’s new Octo a sign of what watches might look like in the future?

Alongside Audemar Piguet's Royal Oak and the Rolex Daytona, the Bulgari Octo has fast become one of the most talked-about men’s watches and the new Finissimo Ultra is only going to enhance its credentials.

"To say Bulgari Octo watches are a firm celeb fave would be a modern day understatement. Spotted on the wrists of Cristiano Ronaldo, John Legend, Bradley Cooper, Idris Elba, David Gandy, Gerard Butler, Eric Bana, Adrien Brody, Jeremy Renner, Jared Leto, Aaron Eckhart (we’re still going), Matthew McConaughey and Josh O’Connor, that’s some serious star power, only bettered by the fact many of whom pride themselves on their horological knowledge and timepiece collections. When you consider the Octo has only been around for 10 years, it makes such popularity all the more notable. As Jean-Christophe Babin, Bulgari’s CEO, has said in the past, “Octos stand out from the crowd and are very important for us because they are redefining the character of the brand, which is the unique fusion between Italian design and Swiss engineering.”

Impartially aside, Babin is right because in the same rich vein as an AP Royal Oak, a Rolex Daytona, a Patek Nautilus or a Cartier Tank does, an Octo stands out on the wrist thanks to its minimalism design and unique octagonal shape. It has the accolades to back up the hype too, winner of the “Aiguille d’Or” as well as the “Best in Show” award from last year’s GPHG, which is the watch-world equivalent of winning best picture at Oscars......"

Wow, admire the accomplishments yet the standard 100m WP Octo FS is better for daily wear imho.

Still... Bvlgari be flexin' it!

Am amazed the many innovations by Bvlgari over the years while certain 'trinity' brands have done so very little to push the boundaries of horology.

Aside from how cool/interesting they are, I would bet a crapcoin NFT that the Octo finissimos are next in line for speculators (after the GP laureato)

I admire this as a piece of art. Would I wear it on the wrist? No. Have tried the regular Octo and it looked plain akward. Wish it didn’t!

Looks very cool. Probably too delicate for me to actually wear, but it's a great looking watch and I bet it would look even better on wrist.

Agreed! I could see owning this and in 10 years you have the digital equivalent of a VCR stuck on your watch.

IMO I do think square watches will take off in the future (if they haven't already ... Santos.. Octo, etc..) given how popular Apple Watches have become.

Sooner or later a square watch will be seen as much as a "traditional" or "common" choice as a round watch.

I agree it looks awkward. And while I admire the engineering and design that went into this, wouldn’t be for me , especially w a huge QR code on the dial. Seems tacky.

Now THAT is a thin watch. Impressive execution…

And then realized there is a huge QR code on the face. Why would they defile it in such a manner? Very hard to un-see that.

I've been wearing my old Movado, ca.1970, which is 6.94mm, for a week now and I've really come to appreciate how comfortable it is. I really don't wear it often enough.

I don't know about the future of slim watches in general, but I think that after a couple of decades of large, heavy watches, there could be a renewed interest in less obtrusive watches.

It's cool until you realize how common rotor issues are with that watch. Mine had a problem and I know of 2 - 3 others on other forums with similar issues. I probably won't buy another, their service times are incredibly slow too.

Bvlgari is killin' it as compared to the outdated Old School Holy Trinity

Must admit, I kinda love what LVMH is doing with Bulgari. Yes, some of the details grate (QR code?!?! WHY?!?!), but they're very obviously throwing money and resources at the company and letting the management push the boundaries however they see fit.

This watch is downright insane, and a shotgun blow to Piaget; the new 10th anniversary with the design-sketch dial is a special done just right - added whimsy, builds on the legend, and totally unlike anything else out there.

Bulgari are absolutely heading for the top tier.

Am amazed at how durable the 100m WP version is. Some early models had rotor/seconds problem, but overall a great timepiece with an EXCELLENT bracelet.

As much as we love Bvlgari's world record movements, the bracelet clasp goes into the bracelet itself for thinness and wearing comfort. Other brands need to step it up

I don't like it.
