Isn’t the whole idea of a black tie event to follow traditions and etiquette ?
If so there should be no watch and certainly no phones.

It's better taste to forego the watch at a black tie event.

I would take my vintage Patek 3733j yellow gold onyx dial with gold bracelet, or my Cartier Tank from 1973-75.

Hope you wore the 5227J, but I have worn a pc 5059J and a 5170P to black ties. I don’t ascribe to the notion that watches shouldn’t be worn at black tie events- not since I have watches that I want to wear to those events!
