5711 to 5811

“Hypothetically” if you had a 5711 and then picked up a 5811, what would/did you do with your 5711? Keep wearing it? Collect dust in the safe? Sell it? Future plans?

Any chance PP would care what you do with a several year old 5711 at that point?

Just curious…

I personally would keep both of them. The PM and SS make two very different watches from the weight and feel. If you bought the 5711 from an AD, you are much better off hanging on to it, so you can wear in there on occasion.

5711 to 5811

I have a 5711 and would let go of it for a 5811. Wouldn’t need both. But I’m happy with what I have.

I would let it go. The 5811 is the one.

I prefer the blue dial of the 5711 to the 5811.

40mm has my preference as well.

I would thus keep the 5711.

Some interesting thoughts and assume there are a few in this forum that had a 5711 when offered a 5811. Both blue. All acquired from ADs. Not really a which is better - the 5811 isn’t going anywhere.

Did anyone really tell their AD no thanks to a 5811, I’m good with my 5711? I think i have only sold 1 of 9 PPs ever, so haven’t really been a seller but also like to wear what in have.

I declined the 5811.

I think it really depends on individuals, some people like the weight of the WG. If I got both in blue dial. I will let 5711 go, and of course if money is not an issue, keep them all.

Lots of 5811 lovers here, what is it that everyone likes about it so much more than the 5711? Genuinely surprised when opening this thread.

x2

Prefer durability of steel to WG, weight of steel to WG, the smaller case size, and the 5711 production run has a provenance in my eyes that 5811 may or may not match..

But to OP's point, if the AD is *offering* you a 5811 at retail...would and could you really say no?

Agree with all of this.

Larger dial + 2pc construction (thinner?) gives it more of an extra flat appearance

Dial is better on the WG version imo (more blue than slate)

Coming from a 5712 owner I def see the appeal of 5811. Not the biggest fan of the softness/weight of gold though.

One point for the 571*, and particularly the 5711 - it may not be the first Nautilus but it is arguably one of the three most important references this millennium. While the 5811 is probably an improvement, it is not the 5711. I do think that is important, but I guess history will tell.

And if it didn’t have all that history and hype, would i even contemplate keeping it now? Unlikely to be honest.

5711>5811.

It’s a sports watch.

The only thing the 5811 has over the 5711 is the clasp

All of the above, and on top I like the blue grey 5711/12 dial color and prefer the unframed date window and old date font.

I think the 5811 is a better iteration. The 5711 is 'tarnished' with irrational exuberance, IMO.

5811 dial, the 2 piece case, micro adjust, and potentially the rarity makes it the much better one for "collecting" imo. They both wear super comfy.
