IMSA Racing / Daytona / Etc

IMSA looks to be very exciting this year. Interesting teams and a variety of sensational racecars fighting for season win... and a few interesting 'visitors' showing up from time to time for a few events.

Lots of great tracks planned this year too.

With that said, here's this weekend's race schedule

Many great races on YouTube, and here's the qualification session for the Rolex 24 At Daytona 2024.

I haven’t watched this much in the past, but I’ve watched quite a bit this year. It’s been enjoyable to watch. The field overall has remained fairly close and there have been some decent battles.

I miss watching racing. Waiting for F1 to come back soon, but it has become less about the racing in that end which I hate. I may end up following this much more extensively.

More racing here and less let’s see what Cardi Bs opinion of cars is as in F1….

Yup, there will be immense controversy over ending the race a lap too early.

That really threw me off as well. Not sure how that came to be after 24 hours and then throwing the last 2 minutes.

It was nice to see Josef Newgarden on the winning team however. Have to root for a local where I can.

Especially when there was an active battle for the lead. Am glad we're calling it the Rolex 23:20 At Daytona 2024.

Dr. Tom sold the Lambo and bought a new GT4. Just got the new livery put on. Can’t wait to go see him race.

IMSA Statement on Finish of 2024 24-Hour Race at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January, 29, 2024) -- Due to an officiating error in race control, IMSA inadvertently announced and subsequently displayed the white flag with under three minutes remaining in the race. At the end of the lap, the race-leading No. 7 GTP car then received the checkered flag with 1 minute, 35.277 seconds still remaining, ending the race short of the planned 24 hours by effectively one lap.

Based on Article 49 of the 2024 IMSA Sporting Regulations and Standard Supplementary Regulations, should the checkered flag be inadvertently or otherwise displayed before the leading car completes the scheduled number of laps or before the prescribed time has been completed, the race is nevertheless deemed ended when the flag is displayed.

------

So it's officially the ... Rolex 23:58:24.723 At Daytona

Definitely pretty weird finish. Don't think it would have changed much due to the traffic that occurred on the mistake final lap anyway, but still dumb ah. Maybe a * on the case back of cosmo will be applied?
